Elisabeth Röhm's new Lifetime film "Girl in the Basement" is "a source of inspiration about maltreatment on an extremely critical level," the chief told TheWrap.

The film stars Judd Nelson as a father who bolts his girl (played by Stefanie Scott) in the basement for a very long time, raping and assaulting her, and in any event, fathering numerous kids with her. Then, her mother and sister live higher up and accept she fled to begin another life away from them.

To many, this story may ring a ringer. In 2008, Elisabeth Fritzl revealed to Austrian police she had been held hostage by her father for a very long time, which brought about the introduction of seven kids who remained in bondage with her. While "Girl in the Basement" takes components from the Fritzl case, Röhm said there were real numerous accounts that inspired the screenplay for her film.

"As far as we might be concerned, there was a ton to take from regarding backstory and mental rooting that came from that story," Röhm told TheWrap. "It's a ghastly thing to have the option to say that this didn't simply happen once. The film is a source of inspiration to put the focus on the beast that lives within any family, who isn't defied and goes with no responsibility on the grounds that the mother or youngsters or the spouse is turning a blind eye to conduct that, when it's surrendered, can develop into a beast like this. Lifetime has broken limits with this film by telling a story that is a source of inspiration about maltreatment on a huge level."

The film is definitely not a simple one to watch. The sexual, physical and boisterous attack are a lot of the central points of the movie, and that was a cognizant choice for Röhm, who is making her first time at the helm with "Girl in the Basement."

"I have a feeling that it's imperative to examine things that we're reluctant to discuss," she said. "Measurably speaking, misuse, incest and these repulsions that this film investigates have been on the ascent during COVID. It's the perfect opportunity to recount this story, not just on the grounds that there has been more in-home maltreatment on account of the closure yet in addition since we need to shine a light on the murkiness and we need to destroy it by bringing it to the surface. I think films like this bring maltreatment to the surface, and individuals can get the assistance that they need and the help that they need."

Röhm added, "It is likewise an account of expectation and one lady's will to endure. On the off chance that we can secure into expectation and love and euphoria, we can endure and we can find right out of that jail… the victory of the human will is what is the issue here."

The film was shot in 14 days, mainly on a phase, while other scenes recorded in the family home required about seven days. Röhm said that her experience as an entertainer (she's featured in films like "Happiness" and "Sensation" and TV shows like "Jane the Virgin" and "Law and Order") assisted her with navigating the troublesome scenes with the cast, and her need was to cause the entertainers to have a sense of security on set, particularly during the attack scenes.

"I truly tuned in to Stefanie and Judd in light of the fact that they had such touchy scenes, and we needed to explore them together," the chief explained. "I've been on the other side of the camera, so that caused me explore. They are experts. They realized what to request and realized how to make limits. It's intense stuff, yet everybody understood what they found themselves mixed up with."

"Girl in the Basement" likewise stars Joely Fisher and Emily Topper. The film debuts Saturday on Lifetime.
