A school is a place where students spend most of their childhood and early adult years. It is a place of education and the primary focus should be on offering knowledge. But there are some basic facilities that every school must offer to offer ease of access, experience, and growth. Without the following basic facilities, it is difficult for the school to meet the various requirements of every student:

Library: Even when all the information you need is available on the internet, a library is something that cannot and should not be eliminated from the school. A well-stocked library enables the students as well as teachers to complement their study with research and classwork. For some students, the library works as a safe and silent space where they can do an independent study without any hindrance. And for those with limited access to the internet, the library works as a treasure trove of information.

School Bus: If a school aims at offering quality education to all the sections of the society, a school bus is important. For example, some of the best Indian CBSE schools in Malaysia have a bus system that enables students from far and wide to access the school and its resources easily. Not all parents might have a vehicle, but this shouldn’t be a limiting factor for students to gain an education. To ensure that the students can attend educational tours, or even make it to school on time, it is important to have a means of transportation that is exclusive to the school.

Playgrounds and Sports Facilities: Physical activity is important for a child's overall development and this infrastructure is of foremost importance. Many schools do not have the adequate spacing required for large playgrounds as they are generally situated inside the city. Each school should have the infrastructure for at least one outdoor sport and parents must consider this aspect before admitting their children.

Adequate Teaching Staff: An individual can handle only so many students. If there are over 50 students in one class with one teacher, the teacher may not be able to cater to their individual needs. Since each student’s requirements differ from each other, there must be enough teachers to give them individual attention. Apart from the number, the teachers must be well-educated with professional degrees. It will ensure that the knowledge imparted to the students is of a high order. The teachers must also have emotional availability to help students in sensitive situations.

Hygiene: Schools can be a breeding ground for illnesses and diseases. Since students come from all walks of life, it might be difficult for a school to ensure that diseases do not enter the campus. The school, however, can maintain good hygiene standards in classrooms and washrooms. Regular cleaning and washing of toilets are also essential, and schools must have separate non-teaching staff for this purpose.

Concerning students, school facilities affect health, behavior, engagement, learning, and growth in achievement. It can have a profound impact on both teacher and student outcomes.
