However, if none of those things matter to you and you want a powerful Mac to use for daily non-intensive tasks, the new M1 MacBook Pro (or even the Air) is perfect for you.
What we have to remember is that with the A4 chip (released 10 years ago) on the iPhone 4 all the way to the A14 chip (released this year), there has been an 8,000 to 11,000% increase in speed. This is phenomenal and only shows the potential of the M1 and what amazingness we can expect from Apple in the future.
Apple announced the graphics more on the M1 has 2.6 teraflops of power, this is quite powerful for an integrated graphics chip. In comparison to the Intel processor that was in the previous Macs that had LESS than a teraflop. Yup, the integrated Intel processor that was in previous Macs didn’t even make a teraflop. So, if Apple is claiming the M1 has 2x the power of the previous Intel processors, you can expect the new 13-inch MacBook Pro to have faster graphics than most other previous Mac models that are Intel-based.
It has been a known fact that Apple has been making their own chipsets for iPhones and iPads for many years (since the iPhone 4, back in 2010). During this time they have simultaneously built the iOS software and their chipsets to work together and get the best out of the processing power.
Update: If you do need Windows running on a Mac, this problem is still true. As explained in my review of the MacBook Air I found a solution to remote into my Windows machine at work without needing Windows at all, so my specific problem is no more. The M1 (and iPad) just got that much better for me.

After Apple’s announcement I was heart-set on purchasing a MacBook Air, that is the MacBook Air with the Intel processor. Costco has a sale on an Intel i5 version, with 8 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD, and I decided this was the perfect machine for me.
This new chip has 8 cores dedicated to graphics performance. Apple has said they have combined everything into one chip. This includes the RAM, the Neural Engine, the processor itself — all together into one small chip.
Let’s dive deeper into how they compare in that regard and I would like to focus on the M1 MacBook Pro vs the 16-inch AMD MacBook Pro since they’re the first options people go for if they’re looking for speed and power.

The 2019 MacBook Pro 16-inch is paired with an AMD 5500M or a 5600M graphics card inside them. According to AMD’s own website, the graphics processing power on this machine is FAR more powerful than what you will get with the new M1 MacBooks. Obviously, this is not for all tasks, but when it comes to heavy graphics processing, the 16-inch still beats the recently released M1 MacBooks.

This is just the start of M1 Macs they’re already off to a great start. It’s going to be amazing to witness their journey over the years and see how powerful they’ll really get — especially once they introduce the M1 chip to the 16-inch MacBook. Apple said they’re going to be transitioning all of their Macs onto their own M1 chipset over the next two years. This includes the iMac, the Mac Pro, etc. This two-year journey has just begun and it’s already incredible to see how powerful these $1000 machines are.
