Brandt Snedeker pocketed the $10 million FedEx Cup winner's check after holding his nerve to card a two-under par final round of 68 and win the PGA Tour Championship.

A U.S. wildcard pick for the forthcoming Ryder Cup, Snedeker finished 10 under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Briton Justin Rose.

The 31-year-old American's triumph at the East Lake Golf Club saw him finishing top of the FedEx Cup standings -- an end of season series with a bumper money prize -- ahead of world No. 1 Rory McIlroy and 14-time major winner Tiger Woods.

'I think it solidifies what I already know,' the new world No. 10 told the Tour's official website. 'I think when I play my best golf; my best golf is some of the best in the world.

'I've never had more confidence in myself than I have the last five weeks, and I made sure that I kept telling myself that all day.

'I am one of the best players in the world. This is supposed to happen. It's OK to feel nervous, and no matter what I feel today, everybody else in the field feels exactly the same way I do.'

Northern Ireland's McIlroy, who will play for Europe against Snedeker in the Ryder Cup later this week, saw his challenge fade early on.

McIlroy, who would have taken the FedEx Cup title with victory, carded a four-over 74 to finish in a five-way tie for 10th, but he took the time to congratulate Snedeker.

'I'm a little disappointed, but at the same time, Brandt really deserves to win,' said McIlroy. 'He played the best golf out of anyone. He knew what he needed to do.

'He needed to come in here and win. He controlled his own destiny, just like I did. And he was able to come and do that. So because of that, he really deserves it.'

Former world No. 1 Woods saw his challenge fade early on the final day, eventually finishing with a disappointing 72.
