# Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung's duet changes Hong Kong cinema

When it comes to action comedy films that originate from Hong Kong, then there are two big actor names that come to mind, namely Sammo Hung Kam-bo and Jackie Chan. Both of them succeeded in changing the Hong Kong film market at that time by presenting action films wrapped in comedy.
Acting as a director, Sammo Hung, also cleverly drew Jackie Chan in several films such as Winners and Sinners, My Lucky Stars and Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars which dominated Asian cinema in the 80s era.

Reporting from the South China Morning Post, it is stated that the era of action comedy films has actually started since the appearance of the film Aces Go Places, directed by Eric Tsang in 1982. The film presents action scenes like James Bond, but combined with comedy.
Golden Harvest, which produces Winners, was surprised by the success of Aces Go Places and wanted to create its own version. Aces is still considered lacking action scenes, and Winners presents comedy elements with action scenes, not an action-comedy film, although the action scenes are very good, "said Frank Djeng, an Asian film expert.

Producer Lo Wei is the figure who brought him into the film industry. New Fist of Fury is a film directed and starring Jackie Chan himself. But at that time, Jackie Chan was compared to Bruce Lee.

"Lo Wei just wanted me to be Bruce Lee, and he wanted me to do kung fu in the style of Bruce. But I'm not like Bruce Lee, as a warrior as well as a person. I don't have the experience Bruce has and can't act like him," said Jackie Chan in a 1998 interview with the South China Morning Post.
"Also, I've seen the pressure Bruce is under because he is promoting himself as the best fighter, and I didn't want to go through that. So I realized that to succeed, I had to be completely different from him."

Even though he doesn't have the same vision as Lo Wei, Jackie Chan got many valuable lessons while making New Fist of Fury. He also told behind the filming of the film.

"Well, I learned a lot. Lo used to fall asleep while we were shooting fight scenes, and when he fell asleep, I would do everything myself. The crew worked quietly so as not to wake him up, and I had more time to finish martial arts. So it was really great. helped me become more experienced, "he said
In the end, Jackie Chan was not too satisfied with the results of the film. He admitted that he did not get much time to complete the martial arts scene, especially since the budget for the film was not too big.
The film Shaolin Wooden Men, shot in 1976, is a much better film. Although, the figure of Bruce Lee still haunts Jackie Chan.

"I was very happy with the martial arts in the film, because I choreographed myself. Lo is still trying to turn me into the next Bruce Lee with Shaolin Wooden Men, so the film failed at the box office," he said.
