City of New Roads hosting free July 4th festival celebration

NEW ROADS, La. (WAFB) - The City of New Roads will have a July 4th celebration in the “Prettiest City on the Water.” The theme for the star-spangled event is “Quarantining in America.”

The event is happening Friday, July 2 through Sunday, July 4, in Downtown New Roads.

The city said the COVID-19 pandemic forced the 2020 celebration to scale back, and this year, festivities will begin with a bang. The weekend of events will kick off Friday, July 2, with live entertainment from The Michael Foster Project performing brass music covering multiple genres. A spectacular firework display over False River will immediately follow around 9 p.m.

The highlight of Saturday evening will be a live performance by Tyree Neal. The boat parade will cap off the weekend on Sunday, July 4 at 2 p.m. at 210 Morrison Parkway. Boats of all sizes will parade on False River, adorned in the theme for the afternoon. DJ Robbo will provide the musical soundtrack for the weekend. There will also be waterslides for kids each day.

Get ready to get back out of the house this 4th of July! With many businesses opening to full capacity, events are back on for Independence Day 2021. Here are some exciting celebrations going on around Lake Norman and the surrounding area.

Head to Bailey Road Park for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. A chance to celebrate America with fireworks immediately following the performance. The doors open at 6 pm and the Orchestra begins at 8:30 pm. Make sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets!

Celebrate America at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte. The symphony will be playing many different songs that celebrate our country including the "Star Spangled Banner" to open up the night. Fireworks will cap off the evening, so be sure to reserve your spot. Ticket information is available on the website in the link provided.

Start your summer with the best fireworks show in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Enjoy heart-pounding thrills rides like the Titan, or go for a spin on THE RIDDLER Revenge. Plus, celebrate the red, white, and blue with a selfie at the Coca-Cola Photo Wall and receive discounted tickets and more only at the Coca-Cola July 4th Fest at Six Flags Over Texas.

If you are looking for an Independence Day in a quintessential and mellow small mountain town, then Frisco will fit the bill. With big town amenities and amazing outdoor opportunities, yet a friendly, small-town feel, Frisco is the ideal place to make 4th of July memories.

Frisco’s fabulous 4th of July celebration will still look a little different in 2021. But back again this summer, three blocks of Frisco Main Street from 2nd Avenue to 5th Avenue will be transformed into a pedestrian and bike only zone with open air dining and shopping and twinkling lights overhead providing more chances to shop and dine with a great view! The Promenade area of Main Street will also feature a variety of family friendly activities during the 4th of July weekend.

Decorate your bike and dress up your dog for the Town of Frisco’s 4th of July “Bikes and Barks” Parade. Created to complement our walkable Main Street Promenade, this parade offers a way for community members (and dogs) to celebrate their independence – Frisco style! Starting at 10:00am on July 4, 2021, the parade will begin in front of the Historic Park and finish at the end of the Promenade at 5th Avenue. For the best viewing, people can grab a spot at one of our great local business patios or parklets, or stand along the Main Street sidewalks.

Parade participants are asked to register below and arrive at the Frisco Historic Park to begin lining up at 9:30am the morning of the 4th. This year, it’s all about getting back to the basics. No judges, categories, or awards – just classic mountain town summer fun.

The Covid-19 pandemic limited Fourth of July celebrations around the United States last year, with people staying home to prevent the spread of the virus.

But now that more than 150 million American adults are fully vaccinated, the holiday looks more like it used to: family gatherings, parades, barbecues and, of course, lots of fireworks.

The White House is hosting a celebration as well to mark the nation's headway in fighting Covid-19. Roughly 1,000 guests are expected to attend, making it the largest event to be hosted at the White House since the start of the new administration.

The Fourth of July is this weekend, and there’s no shortage of events in different municipalities throughout the weekend.

Here’s a schedule of events going on beginning with Friday through the holiday.

Fireworks cap off Fourth of July celebration at Empire Outlets
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A dazzling fireworks show Sunday capped off a weekend of Fourth of July revelry at Empire Outlets, drawing a massive crowd and lighting up the North Shore’s sky.

Pyrotechnics shot off from the area behind Richmond County Bank Ballpark drew well over a thousand onlookers who gathered to see the fireworks.

The show came at the end of a weekend of events at Empire Outlets, and property management said visitor totals toppled 2019 numbers after the pandemic derailed typical Fourth of July festivities last year.

A cannoli-eating contest was a highlight of the afternoon, which also featured a live DJ, performances and other family-friendly activities, including The Ride’s “Eyes on New York,” a critically acclaimed five-star-rated interactive entertainment experience featuring theatrical dance, acrobatic agility and circus acts.

“As we embark upon post-pandemic life, New Yorkers are ready to be outside, spend time with each other and participate in the hustle and bustle of the city again,” said Joseph Ferrara, principal of BFC Partners and developer of Empire Outlets. “Coming off the heels of Tribeca Festival in June, Empire Outlets looks ahead at an exciting summer lineup for patrons of all ages, and look forward to welcoming the New York City Ferry, experiential entertainment show The Ride and others.”

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — If you want to see fireworks in Las Vegas, just look up. There are several events kicking off the Fourth of July weekend beginning Friday night.

As the first major holiday weekend since Nevada fully reopened, it'll be hard to miss the colorful sparks blasting in the sky this year.

Over in Summerlin, they're getting ready for their 27th Annual Fourth of July parade. “America’s Birthday Party” parade is happening on July 3.

"We almost didn't have it and then CDC guidelines said that we could open up June 1st, and it was like, 'OK we're going to have it!'" said Elizabeth Engle, a longtime volunteer with the community parade.

Even though this year's it is a bit smaller than tradition, volunteers still put in overtime to showcase these dynamic floats.

"I've done over 150 bows and they loved them so much that they've multiplied."

Bows, ribbons, artificial flower bedding and glitter cover these larger-than-life displays. On Saturday, they'll float down Hillpointe Road in front of thousands of spectators.
