Transformers Movie Review: Age of Extinction - Flat Tends to be Boring

It has been almost three years since the third film in the Transformers series appeared on the big screen. Despite receiving harsh criticism from various media, Michael Bay and related parties have not given up on continuing the Transformers franchise which was adapted from Takara Tomy and Hasbro's toy series. Continuing the Transformers trilogy that was first aired in 2007, now the Autobots are back in action in the fourth film as well as the opening of a new trilogy for this franchise, titled Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Flow Continues with New Characters

Even though it is said that Transformers: Age of Extinction is a soft reboot of the previous Transformers trilogy, Transformers: Age of Extinction still takes a timeline not long after the events of four years ago, where there was an attack by aliens (Transformers) in Chicago. After a traumatic attack on humanity, the government is now creating special operations forces to hunt down the remaining Transformers on Earth, including the Decepticons and Autobots. Because of this, the Autobots were ordered by their leader to hide and not come into contact with humans.

Optimus Prime, who disguises himself as a junk truck, turns out to attract the attention of a mechanic named Cade Yeager. Initially, Cade planned to dismantle the pairs of junk trucks to be able to create something new, apparently discovering the fact that these trucks are not just ordinary trucks, but Transformers.

Unfortunately, Cade's discovery led him to another problem, namely the government that was hunting for Optimus Prime. Like it or not, Cade and his daughters must also be involved in new problems concerning the Transformers and mankind. Who are their real enemies? You can see everything in Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Beautiful Animation Effects, But with Less than a Maximum Storyline

The longer the film lasts, the more boring and flatter it is. This is how we feel when watching Transformers: Age of Extinction. The stories that are presented throughout the film tend to be serious, even though some scenes can make a very small portion of laughter. The long duration of the film did not support the development of the characters and the well-packaged storyline. The presentation of the story looks up and down and inconsistent, making the whole story seem to have many holes and seem to be jumping up and down. This is exacerbated by the acting abilities of the artists who seem to be less immersive of the role, especially in parts that should be even more emotional.

However, be happy for the audience who expect a variety of actions from these Transformers, because the portion that is served in Transformers: Age of Extinction is quite large. There is a lot of clash action between Transformers which is quite exciting to watch, especially if you are watching in 3D or IMAX format for maximum combat. As already present in some of the trailers, Dinobots were also introduced and also acted in this film. Another thing that is quite interesting to note is the smoothness of the animation when the Transformers transform themselves, even though several scenes show the quality of the animation that should be maximized again to make these Transformers look realistic and more integrated with the background.

With these various shortcomings, in our opinion, all of this is back to the tastes of each film. It must be admitted that since the first trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction was present, the expectations and enthusiasm for this film were quite high. For those who want to watch it shortly, it is better to lower these expectations to be able to enjoy the Transformers: Age of Extinction film which has a duration of more than two hours. But for Transformers fans for a long time, this fourth film in the Transformers series can also be an option to watch this Weekend.
