Police around Basurhat Municipal Building, Quader Mirza inside

More than 300 police and RAB members have been deployed in Basurhat to control the overall law and order situation. Several senior district police officers, including a Chittagong Range Superintendent of Police, are stationed in Basurhat to take care of the situation. Police claim that normal situation is prevailing in Basurhat now, there is no problem. On the other hand, Mizanur Rahman Badal, the organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, who was arrested from the district town on Thursday, will be shown arrested in a case of attack, vandalism and shooting at the municipality building. Talking to police and various local sources, it is learned that police may arrest Abdul Quader Mirza, younger brother of prominent mayor and bridge minister Obaidul Quader of Basurhat municipality, late Thursday night or early Friday morning. Everyone was worried about this. Many media workers reached there before dawn. But the situation was the same as before. Quader Mirza is in his municipal office. Several teams of police have cordoned off the area around the municipality building. They were sleepless there all night.

The police did not file a case
Meanwhile, Emdad Hossain alias Raju, younger brother of Alauddin, who was killed in the clash on Tuesday, went to the police station around 8.30 pm on Thursday with Kader Mirza as the main accused. However, Emdad Hossain told Prothom Alo that the police did not accept the statement saying that there were some errors including the exclusion of the main accused Quader Mirza from the statement.

Mizanur Rahman Badal, the organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, who was arrested from the district town on Thursday, will be shown arrested in a case filed on Tuesday night for vandalism and shooting at the municipality building, Companiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Jahedul Haque said. In the first light, he said, apart from this case, there are several other cases under investigation against Mizanur Rahman.

On 19 February, a shootout took place between supporters of Abdul Quader Mirza and Mizanur Rahman Badal at Chaprashirhat Bazar in Companyganj. Journalist Burhan Uddin Muzakkir was shot at that time. He died on the night of February 20 while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. At around 9 pm on March 9, another shootout took place between the two sides at Basurhat Municipality premises in the upazila. Juba League activist Alauddin (32) was shot dead in the incident.
