The benefits of planning candle making before you start

One of the processes that help you get the result you want in the end is to have whatever project you are working on planned and organized before you start. It doesn't matter what your sail-making ship is doing or building a model ship, the best way to ensure that you are going to be successful in the end is to have everything planned from start to finish.

When making candles you are working with hot wax, and in doing so you also need to have the wax at certain temperatures to do certain things, such as adding fragrances or coloring to make candles. For this reason, the candle-making craft is one that you just can't walk away from for 15 minutes and come back later to continue working.

For the best results with candle making, it's a good idea to have everything laid out and ready to go before you begin, because you don't want to have melted wax sitting around while you're rummaging through a box trying to find any of your tools or dyes. Another very good suggestion they gave me once was to turn off the phone and turn on the answering machine. Sounded like great advice to me.

Setting up your candle making project

A good idea for any craft, like candle-making, is to have a checklist so that each time you pursue your hobby you can make sure you have everything you need. One thing you definitely don't want to do is get to the pouring stage, for example, and not have a pourer to pour the wax into your molds. All of these little problems can turn into big problems, so you need to eliminate them early on.

One of the first considerations is making the decision on which candles you are going to make so that you can have your molds prepared and ready to go. You will need the proper shapes and you will also have the highlights in place.

When you are making candles, you will find that you have three rather different work areas.

1. There is the prep area where you will collect your wax and weigh it before melting it. The reason for weighing the wax is because you need to know the weight when you want to add flavorings and colorants. In this area, you should also have your color dyes, aromas, and any other additives you may need.

2. The next is the area where you will melt the wax and it is important that you have a newspaper in this area so that you can quickly clean up any spills that may occur. You also need all your tools to melt the wax: the thermometer, whisk, additives, and any other utensils you need.

3. The last area that needs careful preparation is the cooling area. This area is very important because it takes several hours for the wax to cool down, so you should be able to leave the candle making molds in place and untouched. Candles need to cool in their own time, so make sure your cooking area is not affected by sunlight or air conditioning in any way. A good idea is to spread kitchen paper under the molds to collect the spills that occur when pouring.

To ensure candle success, be sure to use the proper tools and take care to melt the candle wax so there are no fires or limited spills. In case candle wax is spilled on the floor, wipe it up immediately with paper because otherwise it will dry quickly and become very slippery. Having the candle making areas prepared before you start melting the wax will help eliminate accidents and problems, which is always good when working with these types of products.
