The year 2021 has just started, as well as various esports tournaments that have started their new competition season. Since February 2021, several esports games have started their competition season. This also provoked curiosity in itself, who was the most popular esports tournament in February 2021 yesterday? Quoting data from Esports Charts , here is the list.
1 MPL Indonesia Season 7
A name that is quite unexpected this time is ranked first in the list of esports tournaments in February 2021. The name is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League: Indonesia Season 7 (MPL ID Season 7). MLBB Esports has actually been included in the list of the most popular monthly esports tournaments several times . But this month may be the first month for MPL Indonesia to be at the top of the list of the most popular esports tournaments in the Esports Charts version.
The match that made MPL ID Season 7 on this list was the match in the first week between RRQ and Alter Ego which was held on February 27, 2021 yesterday. The match managed to record more than 613 thousand peak viewers. The match itself is actually the 3rd most popular match from the list of the 5 most popular MPL Indonesia matches. In first place there is a match between RRQ and Bigetron Alpha which was held last week, March 7, 2021 . Looking at the numbers written, MPL ID Season 7 seems to have a high chance of being included in the list of the most popular esports tournaments in March 2021.
2 IEM Katowice 2021
CS: GO appears again in this list. This time there is one of the biggest CS: GO esports tournaments , namely Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2021. The meeting between NAVI and Team Liquid is a match that brought IEM Katowice to this list. The match which was held on February 21, 2021 yesterday recorded 596 thousand peak viewers and was a group stage match.
Interestingly, IEM Katowice's Grand Final match lost in terms of peak viewers' records. The Grand Final match that brought Gambit Esports together with VP only recorded 417K peak viewers and was ranked 4 of the 5 most popular IEM Katowice 2021 matches. But indeed, NAVI's meeting with Liquid presented a fierce match that even forced the presence of an overtime round in game 3. While on the other hand, even though Virtus Pro had fought back in game 1, Gambit Esports managed to beat the remaining 3 games with strong dominance in the Grand match. Final.
3 LEC Spring 2021
This time, the European LoL League (LEC) is ranked 3rd in the list of the most popular esports tournaments in February 2021. The match that made this league into the list is still the most iconic meeting of the League of Legends competitive scene in Europe, namely G2 against Fnatic. This match is the third match of the LEC week which was held on February 6, 2021 yesterday with a record of more than 582 thousand peak viewers.
When viewed further, English language shows are still the favorite of the 2021 LEC league. According to the records of Esports Charts, there are more than 361 thousand peak viewers who watch English LEC shows. Local language broadcasts are still far away from broadcasts in English. In second place, there is a French language program with more than 72 thousand peak viewers and a Spanish language program with more than 71 thousand peak viewers in the third rank.
4 BLAST Premier Spring 2021
Apart from League of Legends, CS: GO is also another esports game that can be classified as a major esports game . This month, one of the CS: GO tournaments that made the list was BLAST Premier Spring 2021. The match that made this tournament into the list was the meeting between FaZe Clan and NAVI which recorded more than 543 thousand peak viewers on February 13, 2021 yesterday. .
As before, Russian and Portuguese are the two local language shows with the most peak viewers recorded in addition to English. The Russian language broadcast recorded more than 155 peak viewers, while the Portuguese language recorded more than 138 peak viewers. This record is quite reasonable considering that the NAVI team does have a strong fanbase in Russia and its surroundings. On the other hand, FaZe Clan has Coldzera from Brazil as the main roster with the potential for a large audience to speak Portuguese.
5 LCK Spring 2021
In previous months, the Korean LoL League (LCK) has often appeared mighty in terms of monthly peak viewers records. Unfortunately, LCK has to settle for only being ranked 5th this February. The match with the most peak viewers in February 2021 is the match between T1 and Nongshim RedForce with a record of more than 525 thousand peak viewers. Historically, T1's appearances have been the most awaited from the Korean LoL league. This can be seen from the presence of T1 in five 5 LCK matches with the highest peak viewers.
The match between T1 and Damwon Gaming in the first week of LCK still cannot be overtaken. The match, which was held in January, managed to register more than 800 thousand peak viewers and fill third place in the list of the most popular esports tournaments in January 2021 . Changing the branding and format to become a franchise league does not seem to immediately increase the viewership performance of LCK. Apart from all that, the presence of LCK on this list still proves the position of League of Legends as one of the main esports games internationally. Moreover, LCK itself almost never leaves the list of the most popular monthly esports tournaments .
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Has Become Part of the Main Esports Game ?
Mobile Legends: Bang-Bang managed to keep its name in the list of the most popular monthly esports tournaments , even MPL ID managed to fill first place on the list for February 2021. This achievement is something that the Indonesian esports ecosystem should be proud of . This is because the large number of viewers of Indonesian-language MPL shows have overtaken the PC game esports leagues that have become international shows, such as League of Legends or CS: GO.
