City officials say all city hall doors are locked during the day except the front entrance. Maddox said several area businesses are also on lockdown and are only allowing customers who have made an appointment.

Maddox said he has never experienced in his personal or professional career the type of attention Gravette has received. He said they have a population of 3,600, and now Barnett is solely standing out in the national spotlight. Maddox said Barnett's behavior does not fully represent the people who live in Gravette.

"We do want people to know that the people of Gravette are really salt of the earth good, good family-oriented people. just like most areas of the country we don't want the fringe to be anything that defines who we are," Maddox said.

Barnett was also seen holding a letter that he's accused of taking out of Pelosi's office and leaving a quarter on a desk.

 

Joey Cannon is the General Manager with Can Do Hardware, he said he's seen Barnett around the city, but he doesn't know him very well. Cannon said he's just as shocked as everyone else to see one of their own residents on the national stage.

Maddox said they do have a safety plan in place for both businesses and residents in the event the city receives backlash from Barnett's actions. He said the city will not be under a curfew at this time but will make adjustments if needed.
