He then tweeted 'great training session up one of the Petronas twin towers in KL. 2170 steps!! They are high!'

Once the German reached the top he took a breather whilst taking in the stunning views of the Malaysian capital.

Petronas Motorsports tweeted the film of the Mercedes driver with the caption 'Tower 1 of the PETRONAS Twin Towers becomes @nico_rosberg's gym for the day. 2170 steps, up 84 floors in 19 minutes.'

The Malaysian Grand Prix is one of the most physically demanding because of the hot and humid conditions. The drivers can sweat out up to three liters of fluids during the race.

Rosberg's unique training session may help give him the edge as he prepares to renew his on-track rivalry with world champion Hamilton on Sunday.

The Briton beat his Mercedes teammate by 1.3 seconds to win the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
