NIAMEY April 3 (Reuters) - Niger's human rights mission has called for an independent inquiry following alleged rapes including that of an 11-year old girl by Chadian soldiers deployed in the west African country to help fight Islamist militants 

The mission's preliminary findings published on Friday and based on testimonies and medical examinations between March 31 and April 1 were that two other women were raped 

The women including one who is pregnant were raped in the presence of their husbands who were held at gunpoint by the soldiers according to the mission's report 

"Other rape victims refused to testify due to fear of being stigmatised " the report said adding that the mission spoke with five women who were victims of attempted rape having managed to flee when armed men entered their homes 

Chad's government spokesman did not answer when reached for ment Chad's defence ministry and the government of Niger were not immediately available to ment 

France and other allies praised Chad in February after it deployed 1 200 troops to the tri-border region between Niger Burkina Faso and Mali to reinforce 5 100 French soldiers battling militants linked to al Qaeda and the Islamic State 

Besides the alleged rape cases the report noted that Chadian troops have also been accused of assault and confiscation of private properties in the Tera region
Palestinian activist Rami Aman has said that he was forced by the militant group Hamas to divorce his then-wife in order to secure his release from a Gaza prison according to the Associated Press 

Aman told the news agency that after months of pressure from Hamas officials he eventually gave in to pressure and went ahead with the separation 

The demand that he divorce her is thought to be a move by the militant group to distant itself from Aman's decision to engage in discourse with Israeli peace activists last year AP reported 

His ex-wife is the daughter of a senior-ranking Hamas official AP said 


She has since been deported from Gaza against her will and Aman told the news agency that he may never see her again

During his imprisonment a police officer reportedly told him that it would be "better" if he proceeded with a divorce He resisted the request for months AP said 

In August an Islamic judge asked him whether he felt coerced into separation Aman said yes but the judge the activist told AP refuted this "How are you being forced? Do you see me carrying a gun?" he says the legal official told him 

Aman 39 eventually signed divorce documents expecting to be released but remained imprisoned for two more months

His ex-wife who has been deported to Egypt confirmed to the Associated Press that she was forced into the divorce and wants to reunite with Aman

But his priority is to be reunited with his lover

Ceron performed illegal injections to augment the buttock or fill wrinkles of three other women in exchange for money and misled her victims about her qualifications and the identity and safety of the material she was injecting 

The charging statute provides for a sentence on each count of up to three years in prison three years of supervised release and a fine of $250 000 Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U S Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors
