Lest you think I exaggerate, remember that North Dakota is the world’s hottest Covid hotspot — and there, people are so dumb that they’re literally going to their deathbeds and perishing of Covid while protesting that they don’t believe in it. There appear to be millions upon millions of Americans like that — more jaw-droppingly suicidally foolish than anyone else in the world can believe is humanly possible, dumber than a rock, a dog, a dunce…a virus.

So Swift never really worked out as my ultimate all purpose programming language. If I want to program at a higher abstraction level, get high performance and get stuff done I will go with Julia.

It’s going to be a brutal winter in America. A season of death, illness, suffering, and disease. A plague winter, where death’s glittering scythe slashes savagely across the land, cutting down life after life, too soon, too fast, without mercy. America’s now entering the worst phase of Covid: a nightmare Covid winter. 3,000 people a day are dying. That number’s only going to rise, as America’s brittle, weak, underfunded healthcare system is stretched to the limit, and breaks. As and when that happens, deaths will rise sharply, and so will infections.

And around then, Americans are probably going to travel all over again. They didn’t listen to the advice and warnings the first time around — so why would they this time? What’s changed? The Americans who are going to infect the nation with Covid genuinely don’t seem to care. They’re not thinking, reasoning, caring people. They don’t care. Nothing can reach them and change their minds because their minds are already made up. They’ve decided that their “rights” matter more than public health, and foremost among those rights is being able to act as foolishly and dangerously as you damn well please.

After all, the next phase of viral explosion is already baked in — we’re seeing numbers begin to explode again now because people traveled over Thanksgiving. They’re not going to stop anytime soon. All that ill-advised travel set off a chain reaction, which is only beginning now. It’s going to keep rising for several weeks, right into Christmas.

Flynn’s fall from grace was anything but, well, graceful. On the Fourth of July, America’s Independence Day, the former military general soluted a debunked (and crazy) Internet conspiracy group, Qanon, by posting a video of himself reciting the slogan, “Where we go one, we go all.” Cryptic stuff.

It was just a week ago that the President was pardoning the former National Security Advisor who pleaded guilty to felonies, basically wiping the slate clean of the crimes the fallen-from-grace official in Trump’s early inner circle had positively confessed to. That case wasn’t ambiguous either. Here we had a man who confessed to the crime who suddenly did a turnabout, replacing his defense team with lawyers he hired from Fox News, suddenly recant his confessions that were made on multiple occasions, facing what seemed to be insurmountable evidence against him.

Judge Emmett Sullivan who handled the Flynn case said of the Flynn case, “I’m not hiding my disgust, my disdain, for this criminal offense,” and also queried whether or not Flynn may have committed treason, even going so far as asking prosecutors if such a crime as treason may have taken place.

But Swift ended up catering primarily to the OOP crowd, placing functionality primarily in methods. Once you have done a lot of functional programming this becomes jarring.

But that still leaves an unfilled space for a C like alternative. Julia cannot really replace C. It gobbles memory, cannot produce small binaries, isn’t that suitable for making libraries other languages can use. You would not want to use it to create an OS kernel or do microcontroller programming.

This all came as the election season was ramping up and Trump warned of a government takeover by the Democrats. Meanwhile, Trump himself was hatching plans to try to steal the election by forcing critical swing states to not count the mostly Democratic mail-in ballots, thus giving him an advantage where he needed it most.
