The mule of bakcou bikes (formerly Back Country eBikes) is a beast. It is built to move like a mule, with suspension and speeds that allow you to get there quickly. For a quick ride or a week in the backcountry, the mule can handle anything you throw at it.
The Mule has been the best selling electric ATV for the last four (4) years, and has been improved for 2020.
The bakcou bikes Mule has been designed and built with the unmatched power and performance of the Bafang Ultra 1000W mid-drive engine, with its game-changing torque and dual speed sensors. These highly sensitive sensors record data on crank torque, vehicle speed and pedal speed, ensuring precise control of the bike while achieving the highest possible efficiency. The Ultra motor can be programmed up to 750 W for road use.
The new Bafang Ultra center-drive electric motor looks like other center-drive electric bicycle motors from Bosch, Panasonic and Brose, but it is a next-generation electric bicycle motor unlike any other. Don't be fooled by the motor's 1,000 W power rating; under the hood, the Bafang Ultra is capable of drawing 1,600 W from the battery using only its original settings.
With a torque of 160 Newton-meter (Nm), the Bafang Ultra is also very powerful; it is far more powerful than any other mid-range motor currently available on the market. The best and latest models of other industry leaders only reach 90 Nm, which means that the Bafang Ultra offers far more than double the torque of most of its competitors. This translates into thrills, such as wheelie popping or seat-of-the-pants, that most people have never experienced before on a bike.
To increase torque, Bafang started with a much larger diameter engine than the one usually used for intermediate bikes. Its larger diameter rotor means the motor can pull harder against its magnets, allowing it to deliver more power and torque.
This larger diameter also increases efficiency because the relative speed of the magnets passing through the motor coils is faster. The magnets of the Bafang Ultra are also mounted a little further away from the copper coils, which keeps them cooler and also increases efficiency.
The internal controller of the Bafang Ultra is also optimized for extremely high power. Most intermediate drive motors use 6 MOSFETs, the small internal circuits that control the power flow to the motor.
But Bafang Ultra doubles the standard with 12 MOSFETs. This opens the door to higher power and less energy wasted as heat waste. The Bafang Ultra also uses a triple speed reduction inside the motor, unlike the double reduction found in most competitors. The gears are helical cut, which helps reduce noise. Of course, it won't be as quiet as the famous Brose belt reducers or the Bafang BBHSD motor with its Teflon gears, but it certainly won't be as noisy as the old school straight cut gears still found in some reducers.
Finally, the Bafang Ultra features an ISIS torque sensing bottom bracket. The result is a smooth application of power that mimics the natural force of the rider's pedal (but amplified several times, of course).
