This fabricated quote from Fox News is almost understandable given the interview’s disposition.
By these objectives, Yang’s interview did more to bolster the doom-and-gloom narrative that Carlson feeds his audience — which benefits populist politicians like Donald Trump — than improve the standing of his ideas. Yang can avoid falling into this trap by making sure to pair his description of the country with his ideas for improving it. Better still would be re-examining his premise of the country’s perils: his policies like UBI don’t need it, and the evidence contradicts it.

What can we do to prevent the overload of our local healthcare infrastructure? As much as I personally dislike the public messaging of “flatten the curve” because it neglects the critical role of testing, reducing the overall number of infected patients as well as the surge of cases all at once will be critically important to keeping hospitals operational. You’ve seen these tips elsewhere, but let me reiterate them once again:
1. Masks and gloves need to be conserved as much as possible. Do not hoard them for non-medical use. These are critical for medical professionals and a shortage will cripple our response.
2. Enforce social distancing now. We might not see the fruits of our efforts in the data until 1–2 weeks from now, but we must start now.
3. Wash your hands. Again and again.
4. Do not seek medical care right now for non-urgent issues. Use tele-visits as much as possible.
5. Unfortunately (and it kills me to say this), we do not have a mechanism for widespread, safe testing yet. There is no treatment for mild cases besides staying hydrated and well-rested. So even if you have mild symptoms of cough and fever, do not go to the local ER unless because you will likely be sent home (possibly without even getting tested).
Thank you all for reading and feel free to share.
