Getting to this point, of course, has been no easy feat. O’Brien has been making YouTube videos since January 2017. His first video, a five-minute tutorial on how to open an E*TRADE account, was one of just eight he would create that year. What comes to mind when you hear “YouTube?” For many, it’s PewDiePie, travel montages, and teenage vloggers driving expensive cars at the top of their lungs. But recently, a new YouTube genre has been gaining traction: personal finance.

Instead, they make no-nonsense content with a demeanor you’d expect from a young professional with a 9–5. In fact, many of them went to college and have recently quit their corporate gig. Don’t get me wrong — their content still comes with signature YouTube characteristics: glossy production, professional-grade lighting, clickbait thumbnails, the whole nine yards. But instead of loud voices and jump cuts, you’ll find a levelheaded person calmly explaining finance.

Not only is using bangs more efficient, but it’s also a great way to stay focused by getting around the alluring landing pages of websites like YouTube and seeing only what you came looking for. Plus, when else do you get to say, “I started that search with a bang!”

Stephan, of course, has become the gold standard for personal finance YouTube, and his success has been covered extensively. But many smaller creators aren’t doing too shabby themselves. Let’s take a closer look at three high-flying channels and how they’re making over six figures a year.

Currently, the most famous YouTuber in this niche is Graham Stephan, who, per his latest public income report, is on track to make over $4 million in 2020. Half of that will come directly from YouTube ad revenue, while the rest will come from sponsorships, affiliate links, and other income streams from his channel.

According to LinkedIn, Tommy Bryson graduated from the College of Westchester in 2017 with a degree in accounting. These days, however, he probably spends more time keeping track of his own money. With over 280,000 subscribers and a rough average of 5,000 views per video, Bryson is a rising star in personal finance YouTube. His most popular video, “How to start a ATM Business | $3683 Per Month,” currently clocks in at over 1.3 million views.
