Clayton Kershaw, former MVP, three-time Cy Young Award winner and Dodgers

Many of those who knew Lasorda well shared their condolences and fond memories of the former Dodger player, scout, coach, manager, executive and special advisor, who was one of baseball’s all-time great ambassadors and unforgettable personalities.

Mark Walter, Dodgers owner and chairman: “My family, my partners and I were blessed to have spent a lot of time with Tommy. He was a great ambassador for the team and baseball. A mentor to players and coaches, he always had time for an autograph and a story for his many fans and he was a good friend. He will be dearly missed.”
Stan Kasten, Dodgers president and CEO: “In a franchise that has celebrated such great legends of the game, no one who wore the uniform embodied the Dodger spirit as much as Tommy Lasorda. A tireless spokesman for baseball, his dedication to the sport and the team he loved was unmatched. He was a champion who at critical moments seemingly willed his teams to victory. The Dodgers and their fans will miss him terribly. Tommy is quite simply irreplaceable and unforgettable.”
Vin Scully, Hall of Fame broadcaster: “There are two things about Tommy I will always remember. The first is his boundless enthusiasm. Tommy would get up in the morning full of beans and maintain that as long as he was with anybody else. The other was his determination. He was a fellow with limited ability and he pushed himself to be a very good Triple-A pitcher. He never quite had that something extra that makes a Major Leaguer, but it wasn’t because he didn’t try. Those are some of the things: his competitive spirit, his determination, and above all, this boundless energy and self-belief. His heart was bigger than his talent and there were no foul lines for his enthusiasm.”

Jaime Jarrín, Hall of Fame broadcaster: “Baseball has lost their greatest ambassador, and I have lost a very special friend with the passing of Tommy Lasorda. It was an absolute privilege to be around Tom for more than six decades. I met him in the late 50s when the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and he was a scout for them. I will never forget the times when after a defeat he asked me to take a walk around the hotel in cities like New York, Philadelphia or Chicago at 1 or 2 o’clock in the morning. Tom Lasorda was a winner in all facets of the game he loved with such intensity as a player, scout, coach, manager, executive and advisor. My profound condolences to Jo, his widow, and the rest of the family. Tommy Lasorda will live forever in the hearts of Los Angeles, baseball players and the millions of people in many Latin American countries and around the world.”
Andrew Friedman, Dodgers president of baseball operations: “From afar, Tommy is synonymous with Dodger baseball. Once I joined the organization, I could see why and just how deep it ran. The passion he had for the Dodgers was infectious and he was incredible to me. I really valued our friendship. I’m overjoyed that he was able to be there to see us win the 2020 World Series. Rest in peace, Tommy.”
