Goddess. The Sanskrit name ‘Durga’ means ‘fort’, which suggests her invincibility. She has the power to create as well as to destroy. She incarnated to destroy evil demons who threatened to wipe out righteousness or Dharma from the world.

Some rules need to be followed when chanting the Durga Mantra to get good results. One should bathe early in the morning to purify one’s body before invoking the Goddess. One must wear clean clothes and place the Goddess’ idol or image on a clean surface.

Keep some flowers around the idol or image. On a plate, keep some roli or red sandal, Kumkum or vermilion, belpatra, etc. Then light a diya or lamp in front of the idol and apply a mixture of vermilion and roli on its forehead.

The Mantra can be chanted 108 times for best results.
