Industrial and agricultural activities, such as deforestation, burning fossil fuels, landfill waste and farming, are the main culprits that got us into this mess. Disney is expected to make more concrete announcements regarding its strategy on December 10, when it will also provide its latest subscriber numbers and revised estimates for the future.

Although worldwide Disney lags behind Netflix — the world’s largest streaming platform with over 195 million subscribers — the latter took over a decade to reach that milestone. Disney’s next closest rival, Amazon Prime, has over 140 million subscribers, but the vast majority are in it for the shopping benefits, not the video platform. After gaining 73 million subscribers in less than a year, Disney will now undoubtedly aim for the top position.

But if you’d dig deeper, there’s a lot more than what meets the eye. Apple doesn’t profit much from the web. So one can attribute their strategies as a way to promote their products and technologies in a bid to keep customers glued in their walled garden.

The pandemic has even breathed new life into the forgotten Pizza Hut chain, which reported a 9% rise in U.S. same-store sales last quarter despite the July bankruptcy of its debt-saddled biggest franchisee, NPC International — which said in a filing that its Pizza Hut division’s 2020 earnings (before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) had exceeded its internal forecasts by a factor of eight. And mediocre pizza behemoth Domino’s, which was starting from a much higher base after reporting 38 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth, reported a 16% uptick in same-store sales in its second quarter.

Hotstar will hold a special place in this Disney portfolio. India’s streaming market is expected to grow at a rate of 21.8% compounded annually between now and 2023. Hotstar alone is expected to garner 100 million subscribers by 2025, which would mean that half of Disney subscribers might be from Hotstar and that Hotstar would be the second-highest revenue-earning platform in India just behind YouTube. With these impressive prospects, Hotstar will be the crown jewel of the Disney brand, which, in turn, will be the centerpiece of the Disney empire.
