Our previous post  Guide to choosing the youth bedroom was a brief summary of a guide composed of four posts in which we will develop the advantages and functionalities of the main furniture that make up the youth bedroom, with some ideas and tips to help you make your choice is ideal. In this post we will focus on one of the main pieces of furniture when choosing the youth bedroom; bed.

There are different types of youth beds; Trundle beds, sliding beds, chest beds, beds with drawers, compact beds, train beds, bucket beds, folding beds, bunk beds with which we will make the most of the space, especially in small youth rooms. First of all, we must be clear about what the needs will be in the bedroom, if we need more than one bed and, if so, if all the beds are going to be used daily, if on the contrary, we prefer storage space instead of two beds or if We only have one wall to furnish the youth room. The dimensions and floor plan of the bedroom will determine the location of the bed and the rest of the furniture; With a good study of the distribution, we will achieve a harmonious and welcoming environment.

Types of beds for youth rooms

1.- Trundle Beds and Sliding Beds.

The trundle beds are a really useful piece of furniture when we need two beds, the hidden mattress has folded legs with wheels and is collected under the main bed, keeping the room clear until its use is necessary, to open it the legs of the bed base to make it at the height of a conventional bed. Usually, the bed that remains hidden is used sporadically and is not usually left dressed with the bedding, due to its proximity to the ground.

Based on the trundle bed, the compact sliding bed has been developed, this bed is somewhat higher than a trundle bed and consists of the upper bed, a sliding intermediate bed with wheels and the lower hole can be completed with a third bed or with tools drawers where we can store clothes, toys, footwear, blankets and quilts, boxes, etc. The sliding bed can be left uncovered or hidden with a front, which in some cases is folding. Unlike the trundle bed, the sliding bed is designed to be used daily if desired, thanks to the convenience of opening and the that it can be left dressed with the bedding. The wheels of the sliding bed move in only one direction and are equipped with a brake.

The compact bed can also be configured with an upper bed, drawers in the central part, and the second bed as a pull-out nest.

2.- Chest beds and Beds with drawers.

3.- Train beds

The bed's train is a game for children because they work as a bunk but leverage aside to support the high bed, where they have located storage units such as cabinets and drawers; This system has the lower bed moved towards one of the sides so that it is not flush with the upper bed; They are perfect to save space, furnishing a single wall with all the necessary elements.

There are two types of the ladder to access the loft bed: located between the beds, with wooden or metal steps, an option that will not take away space from the room, or ladder furniture with drawers, these ladders take up more space in the room, since they are located free from the bed, either on one side or on the back of the bed. Most have useful storage space, drawers or doors and are ideal for storing toys or shoes. Some train beds incorporate removable elements that can be used as a desk table, thus integrating all the furniture in the same composition.

4.- Cube Beds

If you opt for cube beds, you will be choosing convertible, modern, functional and versatile furniture due to the great adaptability it offers. Stackable drawers and door modules with different sizes and heights, you can configure the design that best suits your tastes, needs, and dimensions of the room.

You can make compositions of cube beds in the shape of an "L" taking advantage of the corner between the two beds, in these layouts the corner is enabled with a folding chest cabinet so that you can take advantage of all the space that is hidden, or stack the modules until you get the furniture you need.

The drawers offer great capacity, have metal guides, and are the perfect option when space is limited and we have only a few meters.

5.- Folding beds

The folding beds are furniture with which we will achieve maximum amplitude in youth bedrooms, designed to "gain" meters in small rooms, although they are no longer a piece of furniture that is used only in bedrooms with little space, they are functional and have an aesthetics capable of integrating the bed in the least expected place; for example, next to the bookstore in a study or even in the living room of an apartment. The folding beds offer a multitude of advantages, they can integrate a desk table in the folding door, in this way it is not necessary to collect the objects on it when we go to open the bed, since the hinge system does not move from its horizontal position.

Currently, this bed system has developed a lot and we can find them with vertical opening, horizontal opening, and single bed and bunk bed service, in addition to being available in the usual youth bed sizes, widths of 80, 90, and 105 with lengths of 180, 190 and 200 cm, exists in two depth measurements; the narrowest depth usually has a maximum of 40 cm, allowing the coupling of open shelves or with doors in the upper part, another available depth is 60 cm and is designed to be flush with cabinets or to add cabinets in the upper area. the way we will take advantage of all the space in height. In beds with a depth of 60 cm, the interior part of the folding bed is enabled with shelves, granting functionality since they serve as support for an alarm clock, mobile, a book, etc.

6.- Youth bunk beds

Finally, we will talk about the bunk beds. Currently, the bunk bed is one of the favorite pieces of furniture when buying the youth room. Modern, versatile, and very practical, they offer a wide range of possibilities when combining the different elements that compose them. It is easy to install up to 4 beds in a bedroom of conventional dimensions, without giving up essential elements such as cabinets and study table, to enable a bedroom for three, installing a lower double bed and the upper single bed, many incorporate drawers and a folding chest if desired, which adds extra storage space.

Unlike train beds, bunk beds are two aligned beds, one lower and the other raised. Access to the upper bed can be done through stairs between beds or wooden stairs specially designed for youth and children use, designed to take advantage of the interior space of the steps with drawers or doors. We recommend enabling the upper bed with a bumper or nightstand, since in the youth bunk bedsThe height of the high bed is usually about 140 cm from the ground, in this way we provide a safety element in the upper bed, currently, we can find lower bunk beds, where the upper bed is at a height of 120 cm, even so, the use of a protector is advisable. There are also bunk beds with a folding bed system, mechanisms developed to make the most of the space in small rooms.
