How to read professional papers efficiently

First of all, before reading, you have to tell yourself that if you are not interested in this paper or find it difficult to overcome, you can stop reading at any time ! anytime! Don't force yourself to read the entire paper.

Next, introduce the reading process in detail. Professor Pete divides reading into two stages.

Phase 1: Surveying the paper

  • Reading topics and keywords

Observe whether these keywords are relevant to your research content, if not, you can stop at any time! Change article to see

  • Read the abstract

The abstract generally contains the main content of the entire article, which is a very, very important part. When writing the paper, the author will use the most refined language to express the core of the entire article in the abstract. Therefore, the abstract must be read carefully. Of course, if you feel that the summary does not appeal to you, you can stop at any time.

  • Read the Conclusion (summary)

Just skip the introduction, model introduction, experiment, etc. in the middle. Read the conclusion to see if the conclusion will inspire you or if you are interested in the results of this paper. If not, you can stop at any time~

After the above three steps, you have completed stage 1. At this stage, you have an understanding of the general content and contributions of the entire paper. If you are not interested, you can discard this paper at any time and read the next one. If so, proceed to the second stage. Remember, not all papers are well written and not all papers are useful to you! Learn to judge yourself. Also checkout Professional Resume Writing Services Provider.

If you think this paper is worth your time to read, you can proceed to Phase 2.

Phase 2: Reading the article

  • Carefully read the chart and its notes

In professional papers, authors generally express their ideas in the form of graphs, which is more intuitive. Before reading the Introduction intensively, going through these golden eggs will help you deepen your understanding of the model of the whole paper. In addition, pictures are easier to remember than words. This approach can also enhance your memory of the entire article.

  • Intensive Reading Introduction

The introduction actually contains a lot of things, including the author's research background, research significance, research value and research contribution. Let you have a more systematic understanding of the entire research topic.

  • Intensive reading results and the author’s discussion of the results

Whether the result is excellent, whether it is better than the previous method, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the result, this is the core of the whole article.

  • Read the experimental part

The experiment part will tell you how the author did experiments to verify the method and draw conclusions. In the future, if you are writing your own thesis, what similar experiments should you do to prove that your method is good enough. All these can learn from the excellent experimental methods of predecessors.

Write at the end

At this point, the paper is finished, but the purpose of reading the paper is to be inspired and harvested. So, the last step is to write it down! A good memory is not as good as a bad pen! You can write down the main contributions of the paper, or excellent experimental methods, or inspiration for you. In short, when you write a paper later, you can come up with a small book, and you will know what the paper I read back then is, whether it is useful for me to write this paper
