Again, everyone has their things. I’m trying to share my experience — the full and honest version — so that you hopefully don’t feel as lonely on your journey. I want you to know that there are other founders/CEOs who feel that they have no choice but to “tough it out” in front of the teams, customers or investors, despite what’s going on at home. For me a perfect storm of personal problems unhappily coincided with some of the most critical business decisions and processes possible. Is that just bad luck? I don’t think so. Lots of people have to deal with many things happening at once. If you are in this seat for long enough, it will happen to you. But if there’s any way to make these things worse it’s to ignore the warning signs. I could have made it through for longer had I searched for help sooner — that isn’t bad luck, it was me choosing not to lean on a broader team to get through the hardest periods.

For instance, reading a book for 10 hours a day for one week doesn’t make you an avid reader. But reading for 30 minutes every day for ten years does. It’s not about being too intense about something. Instead, success requires consistency.

Primarily, I feel so much pride in what the team has accomplished and have absolute confidence in the company’s bright future. CircleUp has built transformational tech and the team has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs thrive by giving them the capital and resources they need. CircleUp now boasts a new CEO with an incredibly relevant background and skill set and fresh legs to take the company to greater heights. I feel excited about our roadmap. I think the investment to build our technology platform, Helio, has set us up to create extraordinary impact and I feel appreciative of the team members that have been here since our first engineer, Bryce, took a bet on us in 2011. I feel thankful for the partnership that Matt, Andy, Dan and other advisors and investors have given to CircleUp, and to me personally, for years. I truly feel lucky for their help in steering the ship, particularly through difficult times, with skill, vision, patience and resolve. I know I am privileged to be in a demographic, time and geography that makes starting something this audacious feel possible. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to start CircleUp with such a fantastic co-founder, someone who placed our shared values and the Company’s mission above personal glory. I cannot fully express how much I trust Rory and how valuable that trust has been both to me and to the business as a whole.

However, first, you must overcome a long list of challenges. You need to learn multiple skills, change your routine, improve your work, and deal with rejection, to name a few.

I feel appreciative of my family and parents for helping me dream and also pushing me to see that I needed to make changes to be happy. And finally, I am thankful for a wife who encouraged me to follow my dream in 2011 and supported me throughout. In the best of times and the worst of times, she has only ever used CircleUp as a positive example for our (now) three kids — to chase their dreams. And most of all I feel proud of my daughter for speaking her mind.

Plotnine is the implementation of the R package ggplot2 in Python. It replicates the syntax of R package ggplot2 and visualizes the data with the concept of the grammar of graphics. It creates a visualization based on the abstraction of layers. When we are making a bar plot, we will build the background layer, then the main layer of the bar plot, the layer that contains title and subtitle, and etc. It is like when we are working with Adobe Photoshop. The plotnine package is built on top of Matplotlib and interacts well with Pandas. If you are familiar with the ggplot2, it can be your choice to hand-on with plotnine. The template of ggplot2 is as follows.

Every aspiring writer has a good idea of what they would like to achieve: millions of views, a steady source of income, loyal fans, and being published in popular magazines. Some even dream bigger and aspire to build an online writing empire.

Our first task, of course, to import the data into our Jupyter Notebook and explore the values from columns. The athlete event dataset has 271,116 records or rows and 15 columns or attributes.

To discuss and practise with the plotnine package, we are using the Olympics data 1896–2016. It’s a cleaned dataset but has several columns with different scale measurement, so theoretically we can create a lot of data visualization and insights from the data.

Cue. It starts the habit. In my case, I like to do it in the morning after having coffee. This way, my mind has slowly associated finishing breakfast with writing. After some time, it gets automatic.

You can directly download the data from the dropbox HERE. The file contains two datasets, athlete event and noc region. The athlete event is a record of all athlete, their characteristics, health information and citizenship, and medal acquisition from 1896–2016. Whereas, the noc region records the National Olympic Committee (NOC).

es were loaded on the Lunar Prospector, a rocket which launched on the 6th of January 1998 with the goal of reaching the South pole of the Moon. Eugene Shoemaker’s ashes were inside a special polycarbonate capsule produced by a company called Celestis that was actually specializing in sending dead people to space but never onto the Moon. The outside of the capsule was marked with his name, his date of birth, and date of death as well as a picture of him training astronauts in a geology field trip (the same picture you can see above).
