Beyond Resident Evil 8 is the knowledge that by owning one I would be one of the first. Amongst my friends, I would have bragging rights and this is one of the reasons why I pre-ordered the PlayStation 3 back in the day. For a 17-year-old me it would be a logical decision, but for a 31-year-old me with no Resident Evil on launch day it would prove to be an empty reason.

The PlayStation 5 can wait for a little longer until I have a decent set-up, have cleared the classics from my library and the announcement of Resident Evil 8 has been made. Then I will pay attention.

My television is from the early days of high definition. It has done remarkably well over the years and has proved to be great value for money but its time will soon be over. When it is I will upgrade to a 4K monitor and given the age of the television, it will most likely not be long before this happens.

PlayStation 5 represents a huge leap forward in gaming and collaboration. It will be the visual spectacle that Avatar was for film. It is an achievement in engineering and collaboration. It is a console that I desire, yet know I am not worthy of just yet.

On top of this, I have more games in my library than I could play in a year of furlough. Some of these are classics such as Metal Gear Solid 5. I have no idea why I have not played this but I need to before I upgrade. For those of you who will say that it is on PlayStation Now, I would say that I purchased the disc and intend to get my money’s worth.

’00: See, that’s such a relief. People thought I was naive, but I always knew that, since the web was so open, people would find their voices there by writing and making things online. And then obviously they’d learn how the web really worked, and build their own systems and tools in order to empower themselves and their communities.

On top of the extensive back-catalogue is the knowledge that my setup leaves a lot to be desired. My television is 14 years old. It displays in 1080i and cannot even reach 1080p.

Whilst I am saying no today and making a truly adult decision, I am not saying no forever. The PlayStation 5 is an amazing piece of kit. I want to invest in the next incarnation of PS VR when it comes around. The combination of the two, alongside Resident Evil 8 and other exclusives such as the rumoured Metal Gear Solid remake will sway me.

I’m excited for everyone who will be getting a new console this week. The PlayStation 5 is the one that has caught my eye and for all those out there getting one, I tip my cap. One day I will make the leap but until I have the perfect infrastructure behind me, there is little point.

Sony has confirmed that you do not need a 4k TV to use the PS5. Well, sure, I know that I don’t need clothes to leave the house, yet I would not walk outside naked. Some things in life are not needed but to experience things fully you need to have the correct infrastructure in mind.

My set up as outlined above would be akin to taking the console back to watching a videotape on my current television. I wouldn’t do it as it would be an insult to the television and I will not insult the new PlayStation with standard settings. I want to ensure that I have a setup worthy of the mighty beast, one that would see this router of all things gaming smile.

heroine is a bride named Grace who’s forced to play her in-laws’ preferred “game” on her wedding night — this game being of the “most dangerous” survivalist variety And in Knives Out, the heroine is a nurse, Marta, who is framed for murder after her wealthy employer dies, presumably at the hands of his awful family. Both women, like Diana, are wide-eyed and exaggeratedly pure of heart. (Marta is so relentlessly sweet and innocently imperiled that the audience of a 19th-century melodrama would probably find her a tad unrealistic.)
