McDonald's nutrition is divided into three parts. The first one is a "Tavern Strategy", which mainly focuses on the drinks and other snacks served in the restaurants. The" MacDonald Dining Experience" is centered on the in-house dining experience in most of the McDonald's restaurants around the world. The "Mobile Order System" is a system which allows customers to place their orders at the restaurants while travelling from one point to another. The "Mobile Order System" has been implemented to improve the efficiency of the restaurant operations. These are the main areas which have been worked on by the McDonald's nutritionists over the years.

The focus of the food nutrition division of McDonald's is on maintaining a healthy diet. They provide a menu which includes healthy food choices for people of all ages and with different kinds of body types. In order to maintain a proper diet, it is important to know what you should eat and how much you should eat. For people who need assistance, they can be given books or DVDs that give them information about how to eat healthily. This is part of the "McDowell Diet". The purpose of this diet is to create a meal plan that will help people lose weight effectively and gradually.

The "MacDonald Nutrition Program" is another way of maintaining a healthy diet. This is a series of books and DVDs that show people how to choose the right kind of food, how to portion control and also how to prepare delicious meals using healthy ingredients. The purpose of these books and DVDs is to show people how to eat foods that are good for them and will not cause them to gain weight. For a person to become successful in his or her diet, he or she must understand all the aspects of the food pyramid including the "eat foods in moderation" part.

Foods from the four food groups should be present in the diet of every person. This is the "protein source" group. Foods from this group contain the essential amino acids and proteins that are essential to maintain the body's metabolism. Foods from this group include chicken, eggs, fish, lentils and nuts.

The second food group is the " vegetable protein group. These include beans, nuts, grains, and vegetables. A healthy diet should contain a variety of vegetable foods. Other foods from this group that are healthy to eat are lentils, soybeans, eggs, carrots, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant and avocados.

The third category, which consists of oils, fats, herbs and spices is the " seasoning and condiment group. These include butter, margarine, salt, soy sauce, nutritional yeast, paprika, garlic, onions, seasonings and spices. An ideal diet should contain a wide variety of these healthy oils, fats, herbs and spices. However, knowing what constitutes a healthy oil, fat, herb or spice can be challenging.

Some healthy oils, fats, herbs and spices are omega-3s, found in fish such as salmon and tuna; olives, which are found in olive oil and canola; nuts, which come mainly in sunflower and peanut varieties; sesame seeds, which are a kind of Asian seeds that are high in protein and healthy fats; and garlic, which is present in garlic oil and curry powder. All these oils, fats, herbs and spices are high in monounsaturated fats, which are necessary to keep the body's metabolism stable and healthy. Oils, fats, herbs and spices with a high monounsaturated fat content are considered to be healthy to eat.

The fourth group of foods is the "herbal group". These are legumes (beans); nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans and walnuts); vegetables (such as green and red bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes and potatoes); and fruits (which include blueberries, prunes and grapes). Meats are excluded from this group, since they may contain trans fats. Legumes, nuts, vegetables and fruits that have a high fiber content are recommended to be included in the daily meal plan of persons who are on the McDonald's diet.
