above “How would you feel if?” the words, “Just imagine…” help people to see what their lives would be like after making this decision. Like Phil said, “If we can’t see ourselves doing something, the chances of us doing it are slim to none.”

I didn’t realize at the time but this was a flaw of character. How can anyone expect to keep relationships alive if they don’t pay attention to detail? This trait indicates that you’re dealing with a person who’s only interested in their own comfort. They may have lofty goals, but they think this gives them the right to be self-centered.

According to one Facebook group member: “What’s the point of just seeing posts from conservative newsgroups, but not my friends or family? I’m just not sure about staying with it.”

I already mentioned that I brought up the issue with my ex-friend the moment it started bothering me. When I tried having a serious conversation with him, all hell broke loose.

In an effort to assuage this person’s privacy fears, one user vouched for the platform’s credibility by mentioning Bongino, the popular conservative commentator who acquired an ownership stake in Parler this year. Bongino is mentioned in many of these groups’ discussions, and seems to be one of the company’s main evangelists. “Dan Bongino is owner of Parler. I certainly find him honorable unlike Zuckerberg and Dorsey,” that user replied.

According to one Facebook group member: “What’s the point of just seeing posts from conservative newsgroups, but not my friends or family? I’m just not sure about staying with it.”

“I want a Parler account but I am done signing up with apps that require my cell phone number,” a user wrote in one of these Facebook groups, referring to Parler’s two-step verification process. (On Twitter, Parler has addressed similar concerns, tweeting, “The phone number is for your protection.”)

Still, other new users seem perplexed by Parler’s onboarding process, which entails a CAPTCHA test — a standard bot detection tool that many users apparently found suspicious. Others find the site’s design to be confounding since it looks and functions so differently than Facebook. Parler lacks groups and pages, for instance, and its search functionality is limited to usernames and hashtags. Some Facebook group members seemingly confused the act of joining the Facebook group for signing up to Parler.

“I’ll not be sending my ID to them,” another member replied. “I joined a few weeks ago and it’s not user friendly at all. I’m tired of Facebook and can’t believe Parler can’t do better.”

During my first few weeks at college, I made friends with a guy who seemed really smart and proactive. We barely knew each other but we got along well — we exchanged notes, drank coffee between lectures, I lent him some of my CDs (yeah, those were still a thing at the time). But there was one thing about him that kept pecking at the back of my mind and I couldn’t quite make sense of it.

Plus, he was always short on change. Whether it was for the vending machine or the bus, he’d always need a few bucks. He wasn’t struggling financially or anything, he was just careless like that. Although I didn’t mind it at first, the trend slowly became highly irritating, up to the point where I needed to address the matter.

It took me some time to really understand that episode in my life. It wasn’t until much later that I understood my ex-friend. Life taught me a few valuable lessons on personality tell-tale signs, and that helped me make sense of it all.

He was obviously disrespectful of my time and money (no matter how small the amounts were), and it was about time I realized I didn’t need that kind of toxicity in my life.

Parler’s most obvious appeal is its willingness to tolerate content prohibited by Facebook’s guidelines. The platform is currently rife with election conspiracy theories, QAnon propaganda, and extremist rhetoric on the platform that Parler has made little visible effort to moderate despite its own terms of use. But is unfettered speech a worthwhile tradeoff for community, audience, and familiarity?

Whenever I asked him about the time, he would give a vague approximation. For example, if it was 3:20, he’d just say it was 3. If it was 6:35, he’d say it was 7. It was like he was too lazy to use more than one word to respond to my question.
