Include the actions that characters do in between their words. It’s an excellent way to break up the “he said,” “she said” parade in dialogue when you substitute action for dialogue tags. Gestures are also useful for revealing power dynamics (is a character “above” another, say standing on the stairs?), showing conflict through irony (“I do love you,” he picked up the knife and began slashing the peppers), subtext, and character (quirky actions make quirky characters).

When you have dialogue, you know you are in a scene. So put your characters in physical space. They have bodies, remember, so what are they doing with them? Are they smoking? Drinking something? Are they sitting or pacing through the room? What are they doing with their hands? Smiling? Frowning? Do they have any physical tics when they speak? Remember, a lot of our communication is nonverbal.

Speaking of IaC tools, Pulumi recently announced its $37.5 million Series B funding to challenge Terraform’s dominance in this space. However, this tight coupling of Kubernetes and the rest of your cloud workloads may not be desired depending on your current infrastructure workflow or Kubernetes expertise.
