nk the question of scalability is also a bit of an over exaggeration. In my 20 years of writing things in PHP, I have never had to deal with “millions of requests” per second. Not even close. The majority of us are not going to be building the next Facebook, no matter how much we like to dream about doing just that. In reality we build apps that are far more targeted. We deal with specific industries, often in specific countries and we never have to worry about dealing with more than a few hundred requests per second. For many of the projects we’re involved in, that would be large. It doesn’t mean that what we do isn’t important, it just means we don’t need to think about that sort of scale. Scaling applications to deal with millions of requests just isn’t a part of our normal day-to-day.

I’ve known for a while that there’s no place for me in politics. Sure, I’m very much a progressive or Leftist after coming out of a Christian cult, but over the years, I’ve seen that there’s still no place for me. I’m too fat for fellow feminists. Too fat for fellow Bernie supporters, or AOC squad fans.

No matter how you spin it, it isn’t funny. If you don’t know how to criticize a bad leader without making fun of their larger body, I don’t have any faith in the principles you stand for.

“Making it” is nothing more than some basic arithmetic, and when you break it down this way, you can get a more concrete understanding of what it would take for you to make it.

Nevermind that science is increasingly on the side of fat people. We are learning every day just how damaging diet culture and fatphobia has been, and how health is so much more than body size or even diet and exercise. Hormones, stress, sleep, relationships, society, culture, purpose, emotions, finances, childhood trauma, inherited trauma, genetics, a history of dieting— all of these things, and more impact our overall health.

Eating disorders are among the deadliest diseases with an incredibly high rate of suicide. Suicide is the most common cause of death among those of us with eating disorders. And out of all psychiatric disorders, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate.

Poor treatment in society naturally causes people to withdraw, hide, or make poor decisions they wouldn’t have made if they had felt free to exist and be seen as human beings. We’ve seen this over and over again. We’ve seen what happens to marginalized people and those who have their spirits needlessly broken.

The first step to making it is identifying all of your expenses. You’ll need more money if you spend $10K each month than if you only spend $5K each month. The less, the better…and it takes a genuine effort to spend $10K each month…especially if few or none of those expenses are business related.

Science also tells us that fat people suffer when shame or ridicule is thrown our way. Such negative feelings can make eating disorders worse, increase thoughts of suicide or self-harm, and generally harm our wellbeing.

It looks like I will always be too fat for Democrats, and it’s not just because no high-profile Democrat looks like me. It’s because none of them care about the people who look like me either. It’s increasingly apparent with jokes about obese turtles and the sheer number of blue checkmarks who think that shit is really funny.

Life in a fat body is something most people can never fully understand until they live it. To straight-sized people, we are both invisible and abominable wastes of space. It’s like we exist to be your punchlines and your punching bags. We’re even your scapegoats when it comes to healthcare.

I understand that it’s convenient for you to use fat or obese as an insult, and to believe that Donald Trump is fat because he has no willpower. However, the experiences of millions upon millions of people suggest that obesity is much more complicated. So many of us are battling for our lives and struggling just to live in a world where you think we shouldn’t even exist.

Many of us have eating disorders, extensive trauma, or health problems like polycystic ovarian syndrome and lipedema. Obesity is not something people simply “bring upon themselves,” and to continue to suggest otherwise is so irresponsible and tone-deaf.

You might think that insults can be compartmentalized. As if you can insult Trump for being fat without it affecting the rest of us who are fat. But that’s incorrect. Trump is so evil and negligent that you should never need to stoop to critical body commentary. Over the years, I have doled out plenty of criticism against Donald Trump, yet I’ve never had to talk about him being fat. Why would I?
