Student Sponsor Licence for Employers

A student sponsor licence for employers is very different from the sponsor licence that businesses based in the UK generally apply for. The sponsor licence allows a Uk based business to hire a permanent or temporary worker who is not residents of the UK, whereas, a student sponsor licence is one where a company or a business sponsors an international child to come and study in the UK. 

The employer in this situation is known as the education provider. The student routes are the primary routes for entry in the UK for immigrants. The sponsorship programme is taken very seriously and have two basic principles that it abides by and requires the students to follow: 

1. The chance to study through a sponsor is a privilege and should not be abused

2. If you wish to come and study in the UK you should be eligible and have a reputable sponsor

We all know how systems created to benefit many end up being abused by a few for certain personal goals and the UK government tries hard to avoid any kind of misuse of their laws especially immigration laws by the businesses or the immigrants in question. Finding someone who genuinely wants to see you succeed and believes in you enough to sponsor your education is not an easy task.

The student sponsor license is of two types: 

1. Child Student: This is for children between the age of 4-17.

2. Student Licence: This is for children who are 16 or above

Once a sponsor license is issued to an education provider, it is valid for four years just like a sponsor licence. It is advisable that while you are making the application for the same please consult an immigration lawyer in the UK to make sure your application is not rejected. 

It is very important for you to be a genuine education provider for you to receive this license. Your business should be working completely under UK law. You should be capable enough to carry out your sponsorship duties as mentioned by the UKVI. The UKVI will do a thorough check of your history, day-to-day activities to ensure your capability as an education provider. 

The application for the student sponsor license can be found on the website of the home office and you are required to submit all the documents listed in appendix A on the same website. Any information that you provide to the home office is kept confidential however, certain information may be passed on to various government departments as and when required. 

You also need to appoint a key contact and provide his/her details to the home office to ensure ease of contact.

In a sponsor license, you are hiring a qualified worker whereas you are like a parent responsible for the education of their child. The sponsorship application, duties, etc all are very different from that of a sponsor license.
