DNA evidence is likely what police will use to connect those dots. In 2018, it was announced that there was a strong lead in the 1973 murders of Janice Pietropola and Lynn Seethaler. And in 2019, they made an arrest forty-six years after their murders. Eighty-two-year-old Ernest Broadnax was arrested in New York.

Broadnax had a lengthy criminal history. In the 1980s, he had two convictions for sexual assault. He had eleven convictions in total, including assault, burglary, weapons offences, and trespassing. Many of these cases were connected to sexual assaults, but he made deals with prosecutors to plead guilty to charges if the assault charges were dropped. His MO was entering a woman’s home through a window and assaulting a woman at gunpoint.

Take Thompson’s recent analysis of the United States v. Google case. According to Thompson, the Google case needs be understood primarily through what he calls aggregation theory, which is something of a specialized version of what economists call a two-sided markets theory. Thompson says that “aggregators” (or more technically, “level-3 aggregators” which are platform in economic if not technological parlance) are in this manner different than traditional monopolists, for they “win by building ever better products for consumers.”

Broadnax was jailed from 1985–1989, a period when the murders stopped — following that, Broadnax relocated to New York City, where his criminal behaviour followed him, but the crimes in Virginia Beach wained.
