Taking Proper Care of a Portable Mesh Nebulizer

Modern mesh nebulizers don't resemble the clunky equipment of old times. They're miniature, easy-to-use, and provide quick treatment at times. Also with these up-to-date discoveries, human errors can end in inefficient treatment, spending medication, time, and money. By far, the biggest offender is unsuitable cleaning. Even if you have the best nebulizer, but you are not preserving it in a good manner, there are high chances that bacteria can grow in the console and tubes. It may further lead to clogging while developing your risk of infection. Certainly, this isn't very normal – so here are a few one-on-one instructions to assure that your portable mesh nebulizer is 100% safe and effective for treatments. So, let's get started then. 

After Every Use

  • Disassemble your mesh nebulizer by lifting the mouthpiece and t-shaped connector from the vessel. Detach the tubing and set it aside for the time being. As the only thing crossing through it is fresh air, it does not require to be rinsed.

  • Wash the mask and connector under lukewarm water for 30 seconds. If feasible, use sterilized water. Move off the excess water, and lay the parts on a paper sheet to air dry.

  • When the segments are dry, reassemble the mesh nebulizer kit and attach it to the compressor. Wipe the interior by running it for 10-20 seconds.

  • Detach the tubing, and put the nebulizer in a sealed case. Locate the compressor in its storage case, or wrap it with a towel.

On a Daily Basis

  • Wash the nebulizer kit using the steps mentioned above, but clean the mask with a gentle dishwashing cleanser.

  • If your portable mesh nebulizer is dishwasher-safe, please wash it in the machine, preferably than by hand. However, do not try to clean the tubing is the same as it can lead to water deposits that may develop bacterial growth.

On a Weekly Basis

  • Rinse the mouthpiece and connector as you would regular.

  • In a clean vessel, prepare a disinfection solution of white vinegar and sterile the water segments one by one. 

  • Dip the parts, as stated earlier in the solution for 15-20 minutes. Discard the solution later.

  • Wash the nebulizer components under lukewarm water for a minute. If you can, use purified water.

  • Throw off the excess water, and lay the components on a paper cloth to air dry.

  • When the components are bare, reassemble the mesh nebulizer kit. Dry the interior of it by attaching it to the compressor and operating it for 15-20 seconds.

  • Clean the exterior of the compressor with a disinfectant wipe. Don't rinse the compressor. 

  • Cap the compressor with a dry cloth, or stow it away in its pouch. And that's it!
