The Line in America’s Sand Has Been Drawn Choose a Side Before Time is Up dsrter

For centuries it has been easy for white Americans to selectively tune in and out of conversations or strategic planning to combat racism. They tuned in when the brutal murder of George Floyd wouldn’t allow those avoiding the label of “racist” to turn away. But they quickly tuned out when the demands for participation to help build an anti-racist society became too bothersome to continue.
Black people were not surprised by the white flight since the battle for equity has always been delegated to us, even though we’re fighting against a situation that none of us created.
We are all too familiar with being hunted, taunted, attacked, and unfortunately, seeing our beloved family members and friends murdered in cold-blood by white vigilantes or racist police officers. This has prompted our communities to become warriors for justice because we’ve had to be for generations. We will survive this current situation because of the strength passed down to us from our ancestors and our ability to quickly mobilize to protect our families.
But now the tides have turned and Trump supporters have taken a strong position on what American democracy should represent while showing the entire world they are also capable of destroying it. It’s time for white people who claim to be anti-racist to take a definitive stance to save the country they profess to love.
They tune in when it’s convenient or proves to be useful to advance their statuses or careers
We see this when white politicians swarm around the Black community, focusing on Black women in particular, to garner support for their respective campaigns each election cycle. It is a fact that Black women have historically used our power to vote, march, protest, and speak out to effect tangible change and Stacey Abrams is currently one of the most vivid examples of that power. Her tireless efforts literally changed an entire state from red to blue and helped to elect a democratic president. But we also know that once the election season comes to an end, so does the feigned concern and support for Black people.

We saw this when corporate giants were quick to jump on the Black Lives Matter bandwagon, but not through changing their hiring practices or ensuring that Black and Brown people held prominent positions of power throughout their organizations. Instead, the so-called support that derived from their bone-chilling fear of billions of Black dollars no longer being pumped in their companies to keep them afloat was only for the cameras. Once again, Black people were not fooled by this performative support from organizations who never voiced concern for conditions in Black and Brown communities prior to May of 2020. We maintained our stance to look out for ourselves and have never relied on the lip-service of corporate America to save our lives.
