Things you need to know about Mac Read Text

Textsniper is a fully functional screen reader similar to JAWS. It reads all elements of the window and uses special keystrokes and a scroll key to interact with menus and program content. It is designed for the blind, so it can be very rich for those who want to read text only in a document. The Hotkey VoiceOver command has been + F5 for all Mac versions since OS 10.5.
Textsniper will not be read by Microsoft Office for Mac or Adobe Acrobat Reader for Mac. Comparable programs that work with VoiceOver are Pages (Apple Word Processor) and Previews (default PDF viewer for Mac). More information can be found at textsniper about how to make mac read text.
Mac OS X also has a text-to-speech option that reads the specified text when you press a user-defined keyboard shortcut. The text-to-speech option also works on Apple's calculator to make it a voice. For people with learning disabilities, this is an easier option than sending voice to read electronic text.
To get started, open the System Preferences panel under the Apple icon and click Dictation and Speech.
·         Select the Text-to-Speech tab
·         Select the "Speak selected text" option by pressing the key.
·         Click the setting key option
·         Select a modification key — command, control, option, or shift — and another key of your choice
·         Then click "OK"
Now, every time you type this key combination, your Mac will read the selected text aloud. To stop talking, type the same key combination.
The default TTS shortcut is option + escape. In System Preferences, you can adjust the volume and speech rate in the dictation and speech options.
Choose another reading tone
Alex is the default reading voice for Mac OS. It has incredibly realistic sound, but Mac text-to-speech sounds have other options. Mac OS has a large number of high-quality voices in many languages ​​and dialects. To access these sounds, follow these steps.
·         Open the Apple menu and choose System Preferences
·         Open order and speech
·         Click the Edit Sound box, and then click Customize.
·         Select the checkbox for the sounds you want to install and click "OK."

Downloading additional sounds will take some time. Each file is approximately 200 MB in size. If you install Voices in different languages, it also downloads additional files that your Mac will need to support those languages. You may not want to download more sounds than you are using.

Create an MP3 file on your Mac

Textsniper is a text-to-speech program for Mac OS X Leopard. It can use high quality Alex's voice to create MP3 files that you can upload to your iPod. This program has not yet been tested by our office, but we understand that it will only open text files. You may need to cut and paste the text required for the MP3 file into the user interface.

Each file is approximately 200 MB in size. If you install Voices in different languages, it also downloads additional files that your Mac will need to support those languages.
