Upon visiting Patiala, you'll find a thriving culinary scene, incredible shopping spaces, and marvellous historical places that will leave you awestruck. With so many great places to visit, it can be hard to choose where to start and what all should you add to your itinerary. The past is ever-present in the city of Patiala. Thanks to the architecturally skilled Rajput and Mughal communities, the city has several structural masterpieces which are a testament to its regal legacy. Qila Mubarak, Sheesh Mahal, Old Moti Bagh Palace, Bahadurgarh Fort and Shahi Samadhi are some of the many splendid reminders of its glorious past.

Quick fact: The diya in Qila Mubarak has been burning continuously for more than 250 years. It was brought by Baba Ala Singh from Jwalamukhi Temple in Kangra. According to locals, if this flame were ever to be extinguished, Patiala would be destroyed in a flood.

2. Shop your heart out

It was frequently visited by Prince Rajinder Singh and has rare species of trees and flowers which he bought from different places. The peaceful and serene ambience makes the Baradari Garden a must-visit tourist attraction.

5. Seek the spiritual bliss

While most people flock to this city for recreation, there is still a good chunk of devotees who visit Patalia to offer gratitude to the almighty. The spiritual sites like Kali Temple and Gurudwara Dukh Nirwahan Sahib should not be missed. There is an interesting story behind the peculiar name of this Gurudwara. It is said that the ninth Sikh guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, sat under a banyan tree to cure a mysterious illness afflicting the residents of Lehal village. The beautiful gurudwara was built with white marble at that exact spot to mark this miracle. One can also take a dip in the Sarovar at the Gurudwara which is believed to cure ailments.
