Today Is National Popcorn Day

It's National Popcorn Day, and a new poll on swnsdigital.com found movie theater popcorn is our FAVORITE type, with almost twice as many votes as second place.

Steve Martin told his fans on Sunday that he had some good and bad news to share with them.

The 75-year-old actor took to Twitter to say that he had received the COVID-19 vaccine, writing, "Good news/Bad news. Good news: I just got vaccinated! Bad news: I got it because I’m 75. Ha!”

“The operation in NYC was smooth as silk (sorry about the cliché @BCDreyer!) and hosted to perfection by the US Army and National Guard,” he continued. “Thank you all, and thank you science.”

Early last week, Martha Stewart got the vaccine as well, sharing a video on Monday evening of her getting the shot in her arm.

“I was vaccinated today in a designated vaccine pod near the Martha Stewart Center for Living at Mount Sinai Downtown I am so proud of and grateful to thedoctors, nurses and medical staff who are wading through the red tape and confusion of the distribution of these very important vaccines,” she wrote in the caption. ”I am excited to have received my dosage and look forward to the booster. The doctors told me 10,000 applications were received by Mount Sinai right after the state released this batch of vaccines.”

The 79-year-old celebrity lifestyle guru continued, adding, “Here’s to the advancement of science and a heartfelt thanks to those working on the vaccines. We are all hoping for an end to this pandemic.”

Donald Trump plans to fly to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida the morning of Joe Biden’s inauguration, where several current White House staff are expected to work for him or his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, after his presidency, according to people familiar with the matter.

Trump intends to live at the Palm Beach resort, the people said, though some of his future neighbors are trying to stop him from taking up permanent residence.

The White House is considering holding a send-off event for Trump before he leaves Washington, according to a person familiar with the planning. But no final decisions have been made about the format or the location of the event, the person said. Former President Barack Obama delivered farewell remarks in 2017 at Joint Base Andrews before his final flight on the presidential aircraft.

This week, the State Department extended an invitation to Biden and his wife, Jill, to stay at Blair House, a historic home near the White House, the night before the inauguration on Jan. 20, according to people familiar with the matter.

Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Brazil are among several countries looking for supplies from India, which has given clearance for the emergency use for the AstraZeneca vaccine and another developed by the Indian company Bharat Biotech. India has said as the vaccination process is just starting at home, it is too early to give a specific response on the supplies to other countries. India is launching its massive immunization drive on Saturday aimed at vaccinating 300 million people by August. Nepal’s government gave official permission Friday for emergency use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The next day, another busy holiday travel day, more of the same: 14 flights to Canada from places including Boston; Chicago; Houston; Cancun, Mexico; and the Dominican Republic, all had at least one passenger on board who tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after the flight.

The flights aren't outliers due to the holiday travel rush.   

Data from Canadian public health authorities show a near daily occurrence of flights where a passenger may have been infected while flying. From the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March through early January, the Public Health Agency of Canada has identified potential exposure on more than 1,600 international flights and more than 1,400 flights within Canada, for a total of more than 3,000 flights, including nearly 200 in the past two weeks alone.
