We all know the song the ‘We shall not be moved’, the quintessential protest anthem. Whether it has been sung around the fire pit to disrupt building work or while chained to the gate of ‘Big Corp’ Music has always been the legacy of rebellion. Many genres of music have been built on rebellion whether it is suffragette anthems, Rock n Roll, Punk or even Black metal. The human spirit has always turned to music to express what it is that words and actions cannot directly convey.
Drum and Bass, which came to popularity in the 90’s and early 2000’s in response to the stale humdrum of life in the time era, took electronica and turned it on its head to satisfy the youths desire for something new and exciting. Raves cropped up nationwide and soon the world were developing a taste for the break beats and psychedelic syncopation that DnB was providing. The government’s response was, as always, to create legislation to grant themselves greater control over the lives of people nationwide.
Perhaps it is then quite appropriate that Freedom Reserve is now backed by one of DnBs most prolific and well-known producers Mako and his Music Label Utopia Music.
