Whatever your subconscious reason may be, you might be feeling at a loss. You know what kind of person would make you happiest, yet you still fall for the people who make you feel like crap.

I wrote an article recently about why people are attracted to other people who treat them terribly. The reason can be because of the attachment (or lack of) they formed with their parents. In college, I dated an emotionally abusive man. After him, I went on to date three more guys who were cocky didn’t have my best interest at heart, and who I stayed with far longer than I should’ve.

His clear interest in me and his stable personality felt weird at first. I thought we didn’t have passion because we never fought. He never played games. I always knew what I was getting with him.

The fact that a Black woman would even need to consider turning a deaf ear and blind eye to egregious acts committed against her community simply because the frequency of those events was harmful to her mental health further punctuates the sad state of affairs in this country. That blind eye is often the only thing that saves us from coming face to face with the fact that America was never designed to protect and respect the Black woman.

Centroid-based Clustering: This clustering algorithm organizes the data into clusters based on initial conditions and outliers. k-means is the most knowledgeable and used centroid-based clustering algorithm.

But eventually, the stories catch up with us one way or another. When this happens, it can create emotions as strong as the pressure caused by the release of water from a broken levee. And like the water, the emotions are impossible to contain and come with the capability of damaging all aspects of our lives. The tragedy is that we aren’t even responsible for the events that led to our suffering, and those who inflicted the pain are the first to ignore our gaping wounds.

The GOP representatives who mistook Bush for Breonna Taylor piled multiple extra layers of trauma onto the backs of each Black woman who heard the story. We are often the targets of this type of indirect stress when White people make careless comments about us without realizing the residual effects of their words. The damage caused by this type of disregard has even led some of us to attempt to become immune to these situations. Those who choose this route don’t do so because they don’t care but instead out of the necessity to create an invisible wall of defense to protect their psyches.
