Django (in red) is definitely more popular than Ruby on Rails (in blue), mainly because Python is incredibly popular. Ruby on Rails simply cannot compete with Python. This is due to the market, the demands, and the purpose that the projects had to fulfill. Python offers a wide and diverse range of options from which a multitude of projects are further divided.

It’s hard to tell which framework is better and it always comes down to the problem you’re trying to solve, the scale that will be employed by the solution, and the technical knowledge of the engineer doing the work. Both frameworks offer quick ways of getting started and each has its own peculiar way of empowering the engineer to be productive.

Django misses the capability to operate multiple requests simultaneously, which could impede your work. It is based on Django ORM (Object-Relational Mapper, which enables you to interact with your database, as you would with SQL) and makes web app components tightly-coupled. Django could also be considered too monolithic (the other side of a ready-to-use, out-of-the-box solution). Django pushes developers into certain patterns within a framework.

On the contrary, Ruby on Rails has one of the steepest learning curves, thanks to a plethora of independent concepts that you need to grasp before you can even begin to understand the Rails ecosystem.

My sense is that students and faculty are unsure of the meaning of inclusive teaching. To the extent that we feel any certainty, we do not agree with one another. To take an example from my own field, it seems obvious to many people that the best way to create an inclusive classroom in literary studies would be to choose books for the syllabus so that the identities of the authors correspond to those of the students. That way, students from underrepresented minority communities will see themselves reflected in the readings. The students will feel included, and empowered to succeed, when they read works by writers who look like them.

While it’s universally agreed that Ruby’s syntax is extremely flexible, this can easily lead to problems since for most things, there’s more than one correct solution. The ability to build things in multiple ways can make it hard to keep a consistent style.

People tend to agree that Django is the easier choice out of the two. Since Python is a very straightforward programming language to learn and Django is so dogmatic, it has a very accessible learning curve.
