 Bagi para penggemar sepak bola, pasti tidak akan pernah lupa dengan momen gol salto yang dicetak oleh Widodo Cahyono Putro, ke gawang Kuwait pada laga Piala Asia 1996. Gol salto tersebut bahkan dinobatkan sebagai gol terbaik Piala Asia dalam voting yang diadakan oleh Federasi Sepak Bola Asia (AFC).

AFC Bracket Challenge sendiri merupakan voting yang diadakan federasi sepak bola Asia (AFC) untuk menunjuk gol paling hebat di sejarah gelaran Piala Asia.

Gol Salto Widodo Dinobatkan jadi Gol Terbaik
Berdasarkan polling yang diberikan netizen melalui situs AFC, gol akrobatik Widodo berhasil unggul dengan suara 72 persen berbanding terbalik 28 persen atas gol tendangan jarak jauh milik Abbas Chahrour.

Sebelumnya pada babak voting semifinal, gol salto Widodo berhasil menyingkirkan gol pemain Vietnam Le Chong Vinh ke gawang Uni Emirat Arab pada Piala Asia 2007.

Menanggapi hal tersebut, Widodo mengucapkan terima kasih kepada seluruh masyarakat Indonesia yang sudah meluangkan waktu untuk memberikan pilihan. Pelatih Persita Tangerang itu menyebut, pencapaian itu tak sebatas prestasi pribadi melainkan milik Indonesia.

"Terima kasih atas dukungannya. Ini bicara bukan soal saya tetapi soal kita, Indonesia. Dukungannya sangat luar biasa untuk Indonesia," kata Widodo dikutip dari bola.com Kamis (24/9).

Gol Spesial
Selain berhasil dinobatkan sebagai gol terfavorit di piala AFC, gol salto yang dicetak Widodo juga mencatat sejarah bagi Tim Nasional Sepakbola Indonesia. Hal ini dikarenakan gol tersebut menjadi yang pertama dicetak Indonesia pada piala AFC. Widodo berharap, penghargaan yang diraihnya ini bisa menjadi inspirasi untuk para pemain muda Timnas Indonesia.

"Saya berharap, di masa depan Indonesia tidak boleh pesimistis. Pernah ada seorang pemain Timnas Indonesia yang mencetak gol spektakuler. Mereka (para pemain muda) pasti bisa jika fokus di sepak bola," tegas Widodo

Sayangnya, dalam laga tersebut Timnas Indonesia gagal meraih kemenangan. Sempat unggul 2-0 pada babak pertama, Timnas Indonesia yang ketika itu dilatih Danurwindo harus puas mengakhiri pertandingan dengan skor imbang 2-2.

Sosok Putra Papua Pemberi Umpan Cantik untuk Widodo
Gol terbaik yang diciptakan Widodo tentu saja tak lepas dari peran sang pemberi umpan yang tepat. Ia adalah Ronny Wabia, seorang putra Papua yang sukses mengirim umpan silang dari sisi kanan untuk Widodo.

Ronny Wabia sendiri merupakan seorang pemain sepak bola kelahiran 23 Juni 1970 yang juga pernah membela klub Persipura Jayapura. Memulai karier pada tahun 1996, di tahun itu juga Ronny berhasil memberikan umpan cantik kepada gol salto Widodo. Selain itu, Ronny juga diketahui berhasil menciptakan gol kedua dari luar penalti pada menit ke-40 memanfaatkan bola rebound.
