Both languages are equipped with a wide range of packages: check the CRAN Task Views and PyPI. The best IDE for R is RStudio while for Python you have some alternatives like Visual Studio Code, PyCharm, Spyder, or Jupyter (even though it is not properly an IDE). To learn these languages, it is enough to google “introduction to R” or “introduction to Python”. Any reasonable introduction to these languages is already fine for our purpose! You don’t need to become an expert programmer, knowing the basics is enough at this stage: for instance, how to define a function, how to write a loop, how to make basic plots, how to debug, etc.

Basic is about a kind of consumption. It is the mindless intake of tepid cultural tastes. Basic is about the cultural production and consumption of an apolitical relationship to the everyday world that inocculates the basic from being offended — and perhaps most importantly — from being offensive to others. A basic bitch is, above all, safe.

The most used languages are R and Python. It is important to point out that they are not mutually exclusive. R is more suitable for statistical analysis while Python is more appropriate for machine learning. This doesn’t mean that you cannot do machine learning with R or statistical analysis with Python. Personally, I mostly work with Python but it sometimes happens that we deploy packages written in R. It depends on the industry and your (future) company production environment’s standard. My recommendation is to learn both of them!

You can imagine data science as a blend of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. Furthermore, data science is applied also in several areas: wherever the data is present!
