West Midlands Police Chief Superintendent Steve Graham said Sunday that police were treating the incidents as a 'linked series.'

'The 27-year-old remains in police custody for questioning over the knife attacks that shocked the city in the early hours of Sunday morning,' police said Monday.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to come forward, and have asked anyone who has photos or video of the attacks to get in touch with them.

'All my thoughts are with those affected by the terrible incident in Birmingham last night,' UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted on Sunday. 'My thanks to the emergency services,' he added.
