Georgia Southern: The Eagles can surpass last year’s win total with a win under coach Chad Lunsford. Four of Georgia Southern’s five losses came by eight or fewer points, the last being a 34-26 loss to Appalachian State on Dec. 12.

Louisiana Tech: Louisiana Tech is going for a seventh straight bowl victory under coach Skip Holtz, who is also pursuing his 150th career victory. The Bulldogs didn’t play during the month of November after having four games either postponed or canceled due to coronavirus issues before returning with a win at North Texas on Dec. 3 followed by a loss at TCU on Dec. 12.

A win would make Louisiana Tech only the fifth team in FBS history to win seven straight bowl games. During its streak, Tech has earned victories over Illinois, Arkansas State, Navy, SMU, Hawaii and Miami.

Louisiana Tech looks to close out the season with a victory in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl against Georgia Southern on Wednesday.

The game kicks off at 2 p.m. on ESPN inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Tech (5-4) boasts FBS's longest active bowl game win streak at six games heading into the meeting with the Eagles (7-5), who are playing in just their fourth bowl game since joining FBS in 2014.

Louisiana Tech has been amazing in bowl games under head coach Skip Holtz. The program wasn’t a regular on the bowl circuit before him, but this is the seventh under his watch going a perfect 6-0 before this, including a shocking 14-0 win over Miami in last year’s Independence Bowl.

Georgia Southern plays an interesting brand of football. Forget about the passing game – especially with QB Shai Werts hurting with a shoulder injury – the option offense runs, runs some more, and controls the clock and the tempo. It has managed to play a whole slew of tight games with nine of the 12 games decided by a touchdown or less.

As much as it could possibly be, there should be an interesting atmosphere in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This is supposed to be the landing spot for the Sun Belt champion, but that’s not happening this year, and Louisiana Tech is relatively close to home.

Overall, this hasn’t been all that great a bowl over the last several years – only one game in the last six was decided by a fewer than 13 points, but this should change that.
