A Wedding Hall in Cambodia Becomes a Covid-19 Emergency Hospital

Cambodia on Sunday, April 18, 2021, began constructing thousands of beds to treat Covid-19 patients in several halls, which are used for weddings. This emergency hospital is to anticipate a wave of patients infected with the corona virus in the country.

Cambodia has so far been able to control the corona virus outbreak. Cambodia is included in the list of countries with a low number of coronavirus infections.
The Cambodian health ministry said the outbreak of the corona virus outbreak was detected at the end of February 2021. On Sunday, April 18, 2021, there were 618 new cases of corona virus infection. That way, the total positive number of Covid-19 in the country was 6,389 cases.
"The Ministry of Health has decided to use the Sen Sok Premiere Center as a precautionary measure to treat coronavirus patients. This building can accommodate more than 1,500 Covid-19 patients, "the Cambodian television station TVK reported, Sunday, April 18, 2021.

Or Vandine, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia declined to comment on this. Health Minister Mam Bunheng also did not want to talk about the emergency hospital.

Images circulating on social media show Mam Bunheng visiting one of Vimean Piphob Thmey Sensok's wedding halls when police are making patient beds. Journalists are prohibited from entering the area.

Earlier this week, the Cambodian Government converted the wedding hall of the Koh Pich Convention & Exhibition Center into an emergency hospital with about 1,800 beds for patients.

The capital Phnom Penh and a satellite district there will be under lockdown on Thursday, April 15, 2021 for the next two weeks. This policy was taken in order to suppress the corona virus outbreak.

Under the lockdown, most Phnom Penh residents are asked not to leave their homes. They can only leave the house to work, buy groceries or seek treatment.

# There is a Covid variant, Hong Kong closes flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines
Hong Kong will suspend flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines starting April 20 for two weeks after the new Covid-19 mutant variant N501Y was detected in Hong Kong for the first time.

The three countries will be classified as "very high risk" countries after several imported cases brought the mutated strain of the coronavirus to Hong Kong in the past 14 days, the government said on Sunday.

Hong Kong reported 30 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, 29 of which were imported, marking the highest daily toll since March 15. Hong Kong has recorded more than 11,600 cases in total and 209 deaths.
Hong Kong authorities have urged residents to get vaccinated against Covid-19 because only about 9% of Hong Kong's 7.5 million residents have been vaccinated so far.

The Hong Kong government last week expanded a vaccination scheme for the first time to include those aged between 16 and 29, as it wants to increase demand for vaccinations.

Airlines affected by the Hong Kong ban on travelers from India, Pakistan and the Philippines include airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Vistara and Cebu Pacific.

Thailand has set up more than 20,000 beds to treat Covid-19 patients in hospitals - emergency hospitals scattered across the country. Among other emergency hospitals, the use of meeting halls and sports venues.
Hotels and hospitals have now partnered to set up emergency hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients without symptoms.

The Thai Ministry of Health explained that there are currently around 5 thousand beds in 23 hotels provided to treat Covid-19 patients. Of that number, 2 thousand beds are already occupied. It is planned that more than 7 thousand beds will be prepared to treat Covid-19 patients.

Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, president of a hotel association in Thailand, said a number of hotels in Thailand have become quarantine places for travelers visiting the White Elephant Country. Health procedures are applied in these hotels, such as officers with complete PPE, cleaning facilities and ensuring that the carpets are removed.
