Effects of Stress: Problematic Health

Everyday problems of life can cause stress. When an exam in school is fast approaching, when an office assignment is proving to be difficult, when your parents expect too much from you, or when your partner or spouse dumps you for someone else, all these can cause worry and anxiety thus developing stress in your life. When you do not do anything to get rid of such pressure, this may last longer and will cause physical and mental harm to you. These various effects of stress can harm your health.

Studies show that stress causes anxiety and depression. When you are stressed out, you fail to get pleasure from your life and you do not get to enjoy living. This will also hinder you from achieving your dreams and wants. It will also ruin your relationship with your family, friends and co-workers.

Effects of stress include a weak heart. Researchers have proven that acute stress can cause heart attacks, hypertension and strokes. Arteries of the heart become clogged. Eventually, those who suffer acute stress will have cardiac arrests.

When you are stressed, this can take a toll on your weight. The effects of stress include obesity or skinniness because it can affect your eating habits. You either eat too much or too little. Obesity is the usual effect because stress produces the hormone cortisol which develops abdominal fat. Because of eating too much, some people will resort to bulimia or anorexia.

Insomnia is also one of the effects of stress. When you are exhausted physically and mentally and are constantly worried, you will have a hard time relaxing. This will lead to the inability to sleep soundly. Poor memory can also be an effect as well as the inability to focus on things. Research shows that stressed out people cannot fully pay attention to things, details, people, and situations. This then leads to harmful accidents, poor work performance, unproductiveness, and ruined relationships.

Studies also reveal that stress can result in arthritis and rheumatism because tension causes muscle and bone pains. It can also trigger migraines, ulcers, loose bowel movements, constipation, diarrhea, and nausea.

Because stress has bad effects on your health, it is necessary therefore to combat it. Try to get enough sleep so that you will relax your body and mind. When you have multiple workloads, do things one step at a time so as to regain focus and achieve results systematically. Make sure that you do not overwork yourself by setting numerous and impractical goals.

Do relaxing and calming activities such as yoga, meditation, and body massages. Unclog your brain of too much thoughts and your body's negative energy. You can also do a heroic act to less fortunate people such as feeding needy children or giving your old clothes to the homeless. This will help you feel good and will help reduce the stress you are feeling. Regular exercise will also help produce endorphins or the happy hormones so that you will feel joyful and more positive.
