Godzilla Movie Review (2014): Massive and Classic Japanese Monster Movie

Some people, maybe not too familiar with the name "Godzilla". Another thing with those who like this giant monster from Japan, where the first film debuted in the 1950s and brought its success for the kaiju film series (in Japanese, giant monster).

Previously, maybe some of you had known Godzilla from the American version of the film of the same name which debuted in 1998. Unfortunately, the American version of the Godzilla film received a lot of criticism from Godzilla fans for the changes that have occurred both in terms of the story and Godzilla himself. Now, taking a theme and style straight from the original Japanese Godzilla, it's back as a rebooted version of the 1998 film. What kind of reboot are the Godzilla fans anticipating? Also, keep in mind that this review is likely to contain spoilers.

The Rise of the Monster King

The story begins with a visit by researcher Ishiro Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) with Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins) to the Philippines, where a sudden, deep landslide occurred in the mining area. When traced, they found that there were two giant "cocoons" that resided in the avalanche along with a giant skeleton that had long died there. Not long after the discovery, in the Janjira nuclear area, Japan, there was unusual earthquake activity. This activity caused landslides around the area and caused Janjira to become an isolated area due to the dangers of nuclear radiation.

Fifteen years later, Ford Brody, who is one of the residents of Janjira who managed to evacuate and survived the danger, has lived and raised a family in peace. Meanwhile, his father, Joe Brody, who is the supervisor of the Janjira nuclear area, is still looking for the real cause of the unusual earthquake activity to this day. He assured his son that the incident fifteen years ago was not caused by an earthquake alone, but by something else that was bigger and more dangerous than just an ordinary earthquake.

And Joe's statement was correct because the disaster was due to the awakening of a monster called "MUTO" from a cocoon found by Serizawa in the Philippines. And this MUTO has begun its activities again after fifteen years, and at the same time has begun to threaten the existence of living things on Earth. It is almost impossible to fight MUTO, but Serizawa believes there is only one creature capable of fighting him, namely the alpha predator, Godzilla.

Massive, Classic, and Tense Japanese Monster Movie style

Almost everything that is expected after seeing the various teasers and trailers is in this film. This reboot of Godzilla has several elements that take from the old Japanese version of Godzilla elements, including the monster design and its signature roar sound. Seeing how big this giant monster is, it can be guessed that the destruction it will create will be no less massive. In the film, the audience can see with their own eyes what kind of horror and terror these giant monsters can do to a city they "visit".

The development of the story from the Godzilla film may feel quite shallow because the plot tends to be slow and up and down. The viewers who are expecting a lot of scenes of Godzilla's fight against MUTO may have to lower their expectations a little because the portions given throughout the film are not as many as expected. Even so, the storyline and the development of human characters are strong enough to be able to support the emotional side of this film, especially the developments that occur in the characters who are the main spotlight in it.

By watching the rebooted version of the Godzilla film, the audience is presented with a Japanese-style monster film which, for some audiences, can give a classic and refreshing impression from previous Godzilla films. If you are a monster movie lover, of course, this Godzilla (2014) film should not be missed.

Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters (2019), When 5 Ancient Monsters Resurrect

The film Godzilla 2: King of The Monsters (2019) is scheduled to be released in Indonesian theaters on Wednesday (29/5/2019).

The film by director Michael Dougherty tells the story of god-sized monsters who have come back to life. One of them is the ancient 3-headed monster, King Ghidorah.

The following is a synopsis of the film Godzilla 2: King of The Monsters:

When Earth experienced a big disaster, scientists believed that the conditions of the earth could be saved by giant creatures called Titans.

Emma Russell ( Vera Farmiga ) is a paleobiologist who works for the crypto-zoological agency Monarch. He believes that humans and Titans can coexist peacefully.

Now his job is to find Titans who can help Earth because not all Titans can heal, some can make it worse and more destructive.

But on an unknown island far from satellite surveillance, the Monarch geography research agency has to deal with a group of god-sized monsters, namely Kong, Godzilla, and Ghidorah.

In this first session, Kong was a giant monster who collided with the researchers' plane for the first time. In the first film, Kong managed to defeat the biggest Skullcrawler and save the explorers and other inhabitants of Skull Island.

In the sequel, Godzilla 2, the Monarch agent is then met with another ancient monster, the three-headed King Ghidorah.

King Ghidorah was Godzilla's mortal enemy.
