Israeli Jewish Synagogue Seating Collapsed, 2 People died

Two people were killed and hundreds were injured when seats in an Israeli Jewish synagogue collapsed.
The incident took place in Givat Zeev, an Israeli settlement in the occupied West Bank. At that time, hundreds of Jews were celebrating Shavuot, Sunday (16/5).

Emergency Services spokesman Magen David Adom said the building was not finished.
"The structure of the building is still under construction," Magen David Adom told Israeli media Kan as quoted by AFP.
According to Adom, the two people who died were a 40-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy. Meanwhile 167 people were rushed to hospital, including five seriously injured.

Local authorities said the event did not have a permit. Authorities have also issued an official warning that the building is unsafe.

A police spokesman said 650 worshipers were at the Givat place of worship for the start of the Jewish holiday, Shavuot.

Footage broadcast on Channel 12 TV showed the filled stands collapsing and worshipers falling on top of each other.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz expressed his condolences for the incident
"My heart goes out to the victims of the Givat Zeev incident," Benny Gantz said on Twitter. He made sure that military forces were deployed to help with the evacuation.
