Spring wedding season is upon us! For some, that may bring lots of excitement — especially after a year of so few formal occasions to attend — while others may look upon it with utter dread. One thing is for sure, though: If weddings make you feel a certain type of way, there's a movie that illustrates that feeling precisely. That's exactly why we love movies so much; they have a way of expressing things that most people are typically advised to, well, not express.

And when it comes to wedding movies, there are some real gems out there — from the sappiest, most delicious romantic comedies, to hilariously irreverent flicks that can help nearly anyone feel just a bit better about their own wedding experiences. Seriously, some of the most classic films are either entirely about a wedding or touch on the topic in some way.

'My Best Friend's Wedding'
My Best Friend's Wedding, starring Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, is the quintessential wedding-centric romantic comedy. We could watch it on repeat over and over again, and in fact we have. Julia is at her most charming in this film about a woman who realizes she's madly in love with her best friend just days before he tells her he's getting married to someone else.

'Bridesmaids'
Bridesmaids was basically one of the first female-fronted comedy films that wasn't a rom-com, but full of hilariously raunchy humor. It's guaranteed to offer up some pre-wedding stress relief in the form of roll-on-the-floor laughter (that bridal boutique scene!). How could it not be with a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy.

'Father of the Bride'
Starring Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Kimberly Williams, 1991's Father of the Bride is a heartwarming comedy classic. It's brimming with Steve's signature slapstick humor, and while no one's claiming it to be high-brow cinema, it is a undeniably fun watch for anyone who has prepared for a wedding or is in the process of doing so.

'Four Weddings and a Funeral'
The 1994 British film Four Weddings and a Funeral features an ensemble cast that includes rom-com icon Hugh Grant, along with Andie McDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, and funnyman Rowan Atkinson. It follows a group of friends struggling to find love, when one of them hits it off with a woman who lives on an entirely different continent, but despite the distance between them, they keep running into each other at weddings.

'Monster-in-Law'
Starring Jane Fonda and Jennifer Lopez (in her romantic comedy prime), Monster-in-Law is about a woman who falls in love with the perfect guy only to discover, after she accepts his proposal of marriage, that his mother — and presumably, her future-mother-in-law — is a possessive mess intent on making sure the wedding never happens.

'The Wedding'
Starring Halle Berry and produced by Oprah Winfrey, The Wedding is a unique story that takes place in the 1950s. It's about a wealthy Black woman who is engaged to marry a poor white man. Throughout their engagement, the woman learns about her family history and begins to examine the complexities of interracial and interclass relationships.

'Runaway Bride'
In 1999's Runaway Bride, another rom-com classic, Pretty Woman's star-crossed couple, Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, reunite for a story about a big-city reporter who unexpectedly falls for a small-town girl known where she's from for leaving men cold at the altar. As their relationship progresses, she thinks he might actually be the one, but once again, she gets cold feet at the last minute.

'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'
In 2002's My Big Fat Greek Wedding, actress and writer Nia Vardalos filled the rest of the world in on Greek wedding culture and family customs, with her own brand of knee-slapping humor. The film is about a Greek woman who falls in love with someone who isn't Greek and proceeds to plan her wedding to him while attempting to balance her traditional family's expectations.

'My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2'
More than a dozen years after the original came out, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was released. The whole idea is flipped on its head when Toula, the bride from the first movie, and her family realize that her parents were never legally married. Now, they must plan an even bigger Greek wedding, all while she's dealing with her own struggling marriage and the challenges of a teen daughter.

'The Wedding Singer'
Starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, The Wedding Singer is the perfect escape from wedding planning — or just daily life. It's the story of a wedding singer in 1985 who is mourning a broken engagement when he meets a new client who he unexpectedly falls for. He then sets about the task of winning her love before she gets hitched.

'Bride Wars'
Bride Wars pits two best friends — played by Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway — against each other when they realize they are planning their weddings on the same day at the same place with the same wedding planner. An all-out war ensues as each attempts to sabotage the other's wedding plans so she can have the day to herself.

'The Big Wedding'
Released in 2013, The Big Wedding is another romantic comedy featuring a cast packed with big names, including Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Amanda Seyfried, Katherine Heigl, Susan Sarandon, Robin Williams, and Topher Grace. It's about a long-divorced couple who pretend to still be married for their adoptive son's wedding, after he reveals he never told his birth mother his parents split up.

'Destination Wedding'
Who even knew Keanu Reeves made a rom-com in 2018? He and Winona Ryder star in Destination Wedding, which is about two unhappy people who meet on the plane on their way to the same destination wedding. They don't particularly care for each other's company — or anyone's for that matter — but eventually, they realize that something is developing between them.

'Sex and the City'
Fans couldn't wait to see the Sex and the City movie when it finally came out in 2008, four years after the HBO series ended, and for the most part, it delivered. In the film, Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big are finally planning to get hitched, but all does not end well in love and war, and one of the ladies prompts Mr. Big to have second thoughts about the wedding.

'Mamma Mia'
Starring Amanda Seyfried and the legendary Meryl Streep, 2008's Mamma Mia is based on the Broadway musical that was inspired by the music of Swedish group ABBA. It's set in the Greek islands and tells the story of a young bride determined to figure out who her father is before she gets married.

'27 Dresses'
Starring Katherine Heigl, 27 Dresses is the story of a woman who is literally always the bridesmaid, never the bride. And mostly she's OK with it, until it's her sister's turn to get married and she's faced with standing by and watching as she marries the man of her dreams. Yikes!

'Ready or Not'
Not into the sappy stuff? There's a wedding movie for you too. Released in 2019, Ready or Not is likely the bloodiest, goriest, most original wedding-themed movie ever made. It's about a couple who gets married only to discover they must participate in the groom's family's disturbing wedding night tradition in order for the bride to be welcomed into their world.

'Love Wedding Repeat'
A Netflix original released in 2020, Love Wedding Repeat, starring Sam Claflin, Olivia Munn, and Freida Pinto, is the story of a guy who is trying to help his sister's wedding go off without a hitch. But when the time arrives, everything starts unraveling, and he's hilariously faced with seemingly unending challenges.

'Wedding Unplanned'
Wedding Unplanned is a 2017 rom-com out of France, originally titled Jour J. So yes, you'll have to read subtitles for this one, but it's well worth it. In the film, a woman discovers the business card of a wedding planner in her boyfriend's possession and says "yes" to his unplanned proposal, not knowing that the card actually belongs to his mistress.

'The Week Of'
The Week Of is a surprisingly charming wedding film starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. It's about two dads who have nearly nothing in common beyond their love and devotion for their children. They're thrust together during the week of their son and daughter's wedding to each other. It's pretty cute.

'Palm Springs'
We were actually surprised by how much we ended up enjoying the Hulu original film Palm Springs, starring SNL alum Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti. It's a wedding movie in that it takes place largely at a wedding in Palm Springs, California, but it's not about the bride and groom. It's about two guests who find themselves stuck in a never ending time loop, Groundhog Day-style.

'Love, Weddings & Other Disasters'
That's right, in 2020 Diane Keaton made yet another wedding movie. Love, Weddings & Other Disasters also stars Maggie Grace and Jeremy Irons in a film about four people at very different places in their lives, but all searching for love. One of this multi-story film's main characters is a wedding planner and another is a caterer, which of course makes for plenty of wedding-related shenanigans.

'Crazy Rich Asians'
Crazy Rich Asians is the AAPI-led film that took Hollywood by storm in 2018. Not only did it stand out because it's one of the only American-made films that showcases an almost all-Asian cast, but also because it is just so good. It's the story of a New Yorker who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend for his best friend's wedding and meets his parents while she's there.

'The Wedding Date'
The Wedding Date, starring Debra Messing, is a classic romantic comedy about an anxiety-ridden single woman who hires a male escort (perfectly played by hunky Dermot Mulroney) as her plus one for her sister's wedding with the goal of tricking her ex-fiancé into thinking her love life is healthy and thriving since their split.

'License To Wed'
Starring Robin Williams, John Krasinski, and Mandy Moore, License To Wed is a wacky rom-com that's likely to resonate with lots of people who choose to get married in the church. It's about a couple who is put through an over-the-top wedding preparation course led by an eccentric minister who will decide whether they are fit to be married in his church.
