15 Travel Tips for Travelers by Doncaster Taxi

1. Don't buy money belts - they're stupid.

The thieves know they exist and are seen by the crowd screaming, "Look at me, I'm a tourist with money! My rob!" The more you can mingle and act like a local, the easier it is to get. Accept offers and avoid advertisements. If you're worried about pickpockets, you better keep track of your belongings!

2. When you go out, take only what you need.

Limit the amount of cash and bank cards you have so you can easily relax if something happens. Never carry more than one credit card or ATM card. My cash rule is to keep what I have at $ 50.

3. Always wear keys.

They are especially useful when you live in a dorm and need to lock up your things. Take a small combination lock with you when you travel. Don't use anything with a key because if you lose the key, you'll be screwed!

4. Make additional copies of your passport and important documents.

Make sure to email a copy to yourself as well. You never know when you may need to have documents with you and you may not want your originals. Also, if your passport is stolen, a copy will be useful for your police report.

5. Ask hostel staff for information - even if you don't live there.

The hostel staff caters to budget travelers all day every day. They know exactly where to buy cheap food and attractions. They are also more like local people, so they know the city very well. Ask them for information. Even if you don't live in one, just go in and ask for help. They usually give it away.

6. Learn basic sentences in your target native language

The locals will appreciate it and make your interactions easier. You don't need to know the language, but things like "Hello", "Goodbye", "Thank you!", "Where's the bathroom?" Learn. You will love what you try.

7. Read history books!

You cannot understand the present in a place if you don't know about the past. Read the destinations you visited. This gives you a deeper understanding of this place you've been wanting to see!

8. Don't be shy about signing up for Starbucks or McDonald's.

Sometimes knowledge makes it convenient and both places have free WiFi and public toilets for you to use. (Just don't eat the food at McDonald's! That's stupid and unhealthy for you! You can take it home!

9. Don't fly straight

When booking a flight, it is sometimes cheaper to fly to an airport near your final destination and then take the train or bus to where you are going. Remember to shop for your flights knowing that direct routes are not always the cheapest. My favorite flight search engines are:
Momondo - This is my all-time favorite search engine. You always seem to find the airlines offering the best deals and their calendar view lets you see which days are the cheapest to fly. I like them because they search small websites for reservations that other people don't make.
Google Flights - With Google Flights, one of the best flight search engines ever, you can enter your departure airport and view flights around the world on the map to see where the cheapest destinations are.
Skyscanner - This great website looks for a variety of airlines including many low cost airlines that do not have a bigger website.

10. Always fall behind the business traveler when you are on the line of custody.

They move fast as usual to stand and move in fast light. You know the training. Set as many behind them as possible. You will cross the line!

11. Never miss your family.

They last forever. You are innocent. They only have a lot of stuff for kids. Avoid queues with lots of children. It will take some time.

12. When checking in at the hotel, don't be afraid to ask for an upgrade.

You are very flexible when it comes to assigning upgrades at registration. It doesn't hurt to ask. They can often accommodate you when the hotel is not full. Be super nice!

13. Libraries, Starbucks, and most coffee shops have free Wi-Fi.

If you are in a place where you are charged for the connection, see one of the following places. You can call for free.

14. Lunch is the best time to visit historical sites.

Be your opponent. You will have less crowd on your way with big tour buses, groups and mostly passengers stopping for lunch. It is best to go to the entertainment very early in the morning, late at night, or when people are eating. You will even have the most popular spots for yourself!

15. Never eat at tourist attractions or near tourist attractions

I usually walked five blocks before finding a place to eat. The closer you are to tourist spots, the more you pay for food (and service). Use a website like Yelp, Google Maps, Foursquare or Open Rice to find delicious and popular restaurants near you.

Also, never eat anywhere where menus are in about 6 languages! Meaning, this restaurant is only for tourists!
