Police case against 96 people in Basurhat, the situation is tense everywhere

Police have registered a case against 97 people in connection with a clash between two factions of the Awami League in Noakhali's Companyganj on Tuesday. Of these, 26 people have been arrested in the operation. Meanwhile, the situation in Basurhat has been tense since the incident. Due to section 144 issued by the upazila administration in the municipality area, the presence of common people in the market is very low. Most of the shops in Basurhat Bazar are closed.

Companiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mir Jahedul Haque said Sub-Inspector (SI) Zakir Hossain had filed a case against 96 people for obstructing government work and attacking police. After the incident, 28 people were arrested in different places of the upazila on Wednesday. At this time, several cocktails, iron rods used for fighting and domestic weapons were recovered from them.

Following the issuance of Section 144 by the administration on Tuesday night, the followers of Quader Mirza have set up barricades on various roads including Mahajandighi on Basurhat-Daganbhuiyan road and iron pole area on Basurhat-Kabirhat road. In order to prevent anyone from Feni and Kabirhat areas from coming to Basurhat, they cut down tree trunks on the road and obstructed the passenger buses. Police with the help of locals removed the obstacles around 9 am today.
According to police and local sources, clashes broke out between the followers of Quader Mirza and Mizanur Rahman Badal in Basurhat Bangabandhu Chattar and Municipality Bhaban area at 9.30 pm last night. Police launched raids in different places after 12 noon yesterday. During the operation, 26 people were detained in a pickup van today. Most of them are young and young.  

Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Jyoti Khisa today confirmed the arrest of 26 people. In the first light, he said, they were detained from Basurhat-Chaprashirhat road. Several cocktails, brickbats and iron rods were recovered from the pickup van carrying the detainees. He said legal action would be taken after investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, members of RAB and police have been patrolling the Basurhat municipality area since this morning in accordance with section 144 issued by the administration. Additional Superintendent of Police Deepak Jyoti Khisa said additional police had been sent from the district along with the police.

Speaking to several local traders, it was learned that no new incidents of violence took place between morning and noon. Basurhat Mayor Quader Mirza is staying in the municipality building with some of his followers. On the other hand, none of Mizanur Rahman's followers were seen in Basurhat area since morning. However, there is extreme panic and anxiety among the people about the current situation.

A young man riding a bicycle was killed when he was hit by a covered van in South Surma Upazila of Sylhet. The incident took place in front of Alampur police outpost in the upazila on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Rubel Mia, 29. He is a resident of Jherjheripara in the city.

According to police and local sources, Rubel Mia was riding his bicycle on the road at around 10:15 am. He was pushed by a covered van from behind in front of Alampur police outpost. He died on the spot.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Sylhet City Police ABM Ashraf Ullah said Rubel Mia's body was recovered and sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. The covered van was recovered from the spot and taken to Moglabazar police station in South Surma.
