4 Extreme Situations That Can Arise During a Road Trip

At some point in our lives, it is always a dream to go on a long road trip with your friends, partner or family. It is one of the most exciting things one can experience and is on most checklists of people's "Things to do before I die". The picture we have in our minds for these road trips is of driving across countryside and deserts with the sound of laughs and music as background because that is what we saw in movies or read in books. While most parts of the road trips can be truly similar to this comfortable and beautiful picture that we have in our mind, things can sometimes get tricky and even extreme. It is easy to get your head around the minor problems on a road trip but one needs to be prepared on how to deal with tough or extreme situations. Recognizing them in the first place will help you in being prepared and overcoming them in case you end up in such a situation. We will be discussing some of these problems which one can face on a road trip. 

• Car Breakdown: The most obvious thing that you don't want happening to you is your vehicle breaking down while going for something like the Transmission festival in Sydney to which you have been looking forward to for the longest of time. The problem can range from a flat tyre to total vehicular breakdown. It is very important to be prepared for this by carrying all the necessary instruments that could help you like screwdrivers, car jacks, jumpers for the battery and spare tyres. One should also make sure that at least one of the passengers on the road trip is well acquainted with handling this basic equipment. Also, while planning the road trip, make a note of all car workshops and mechanic facilities along the way on the map. This sort of planning can go a long way in taking you out of the extreme problem of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.
• No Phone Signal: Residents of cities and towns usually do not face this issue in their hometowns but when on a long trip, expect at least a few miles along the journey will have zero phone reception. Especially, if one is off-roading in a mountainous or forest area, this scary situation of being cut off from the rest of the world could be faced. It is therefore advised that the travellers should keep their family or friends back home informed about the areas and roads they want to travel to and to keep calm until one reaches a place where one gets reception again. Tops of meadows or a hill can be the places of help in gaining access to the telecommunication signal. If one is planning to travel in a very remote area for a long time, one should get hold of a satellite phone for the journey if possible. Also, it is a bad idea to overly relies on online maps. It is wise to carry hard copies of maps of the area one is travelling to so as to eliminate the possibility of getting lost in such a situation of loss of signal. 
• Medical Emergency: In some unfortunate turn of events, someone on a long road trip could get very sick along the way. Carrying a basic first aid kit for the trip is a no brainer. In addition to that, medicines for any medical condition one has like allergies of travel sickness should also be in the medical kit. Basic medicine for food poisoning should always be kept. Again, one should mark all the medical facilities which will be potentially accessible to you on your journey on your travel map in advance. 
• Out of Fuel: This is a common stressful situation travellers face while on a road trip. When no refuelling station is close and a traveller is out of fuel, he/she always wishes that if only they had carried extra fuel containers in with them.And that is exactly what they should have done. This spare fuel should not be used unless absolutely necessary and while enjoying the road trip, one should never forget to refuel the vehicle periodically.
